Hmmmm....I teach 5th grade Social Studies in a semi-rural West Tennessee school system.

We've just finished studying the North American Indians...complete with what the European invasion of America meant to their way of life.

We're currently studying the Viking exploration of North America.

Next will be England's efforts to colonize America, with great emphasis, by yours truly , placed on the growing hatred of English rule by the colonists.

By the time we reach the War for Independence, my kids will ALL be 'Rebels', and will be well-seasoned 'Rebels' when we enter the War of Northern Aggression.

Well, I do have an opinion. Since you inquired about it,I'll tell you.

My wife is the Dept. Head of the history dept. at the Junior High where she has been teaching for about 25 years. She is in the unique position of being able to read and pick out some of the books that they teach from.

Being somewhat of a history buff myself, I'll usually take the time to skin through them. I have come to the conclusion that that we as Americans are totally screwed.

The books are written by new age, socialist heathens that only have one goal, and that is to indoctrinate the youth of America to embrace a one world government and to think of it as a natural evolutionary proccess that can only benefit mankind.

In one book alone, the title "global citizen" was used 172 times. The words global warming, evolution, homosexuality, and United Nations was referenced over 100 times each. Guncontrol was mentioned 32 times in one chapter that dealt with the Constitution of the US. Freedom of Speech and how it relates to pornography was discussed. Giving up rights to maintain the peace and safety of the "public" in times of emergency was talked about.Evolution was discussed as fact, while Christianity was mentioned as a popular "myth". Witchcraft and worship of the Earth was mentioned as a freedom of religion and homosexuality was refrenced as being a genetic trait that one had no control over.

This in just one ninth grade history book.

It is my opinion that these book spend more time brain washing kids too be politicaly correct than they do with teaching history.

The bad news is that is really little difference in the books that are currently being produced.

As many of us already know, there is no way that a publicly educated kid can compete with a kid educated in a private school that teaches the the full course of reading ,writing ,arithmetics and history. You dont usually hear much about this because to hear about it in the news media would bring attention to the fact that public school are little more that indoctrination centers.

What I do know is that more and more universitys and buisness' are placing more emphasis on recruiting young adults with a private education background because fact of the matter is,they are superior in just about every category and in the one catergory that really matters to big business, the abilty to THINK and make a rational decision ,a trait that really lacks in those with a public education.

            To me, that says volumes.

More than any public educated "liberal/socialist" can ever argue.

Well, there you have it. Many here may choose to argue but the facts are evident to those that will see them.

            Here is a fact...

The company that I work for recently hired two Nuclear Operators, one I+C Tech, two Design Engineers and one Electical Engineer. Out of the 6 , 5 of them had been educated in private institutions and went to Private Universitys.

Coincidence ? I think not. [Eek!]

Yep, any history you don't think about let's just phase it out and pretend it didn't happen.

They were here FIRST comes to mind.....

Honestly, I can't see teaching the history of North America without including the Indians.

Of course, Watchman. And your idea that the Harry Potter books teach witcraft ... was that a result of private school indoctrination, or your ability to see things that don't exist?

I just ask, because your thesis that private schools educate and public schools don't seems to fall apart on your amazing ability to only see what you want to (and in specific, I'm referring to your belief that Satanism and Wicca are the same thing, and that Harry Potter teaches Satanism/Witchcraft).

                    Well Crazy,
that didnt take long did it ?

I know the difference in Satanism and Wicca. Ive dealt with them. I also beleive that they will both put you on a fast track on the road to hell, but thats just my "beleif". Its OK to have a belief isnt it ?

You dont think Harry Potter books glorify or teach witchcraft ?
Ummm...Ok...whatever you say. I'm not argueing with you. If you cant see it, there is no use discussing it.

Why dont you comment on the article provided instead of slamming me on what you think I believe ? It would make for a more interesting thread I think.

Perhaps you CANT comment on it because you are a stellar example of the teachings that are typical of public education. Why dont you "dispute" or disprove some of the article instead...if you can. [Wink] I'd be interested in your "take"on it.

I feel qualified to approach this.....since I've been both a student AND a teacher in private and public schools.

There IS no difference. Sure, the kids in private schools MAY come from more exclusive backgrounds/families, but once IN school, they misbehave, fail to learn, etc.....and private school teachers fail to teach, gripe about low pay.....and get blamed for student failures.

IME, private schools, especially colleges, FAIL to adequately prepare students for the REAL world, instead tending to 'sugar coat' everything and place 'blinders' on students, shielding them from what REALLY goes on. Mind you, I'm referring to private CHRISTIAN colleges.

ULTIMATELY, the education of our childrens rests on 3 individuals: Students, parents and teachers. ALL 3 must work together to be successful.

Well, I'm glad you figured out the difference.

No more then say, the Wizard of Oz does. Especially since Hogwarts celebrates Christmas and Easter (well, Halloween too, but then again, who doesn't?)
