Just got accepted and was wondering if anyone has attended this type of program?

It seems like a great opportunity to learn alot.

YES! I went and I really enjoyed it. I learned so much! We got to shoot guns. I couldn't shoot the side of a barn if I had to. The police dogs were just gorgeous and one was a little scary. He loved his job! lol I am terrified of horses but Cody, the police horse, loved me.
We had virtually the head of every department come talk to us. We ate the dinner prisoners eat one night(yuck). We went on a tour of the jail. We had some very nice people in our class. It was a real diferrent group and I made some good friends.

Never attended one, but sure do enjoy teaching at them....

Kfuzz, What kind of things do you teach at them and what makes them so enjoyable to you?

I have been teaching traffic stops and drug/narcotic investigation. This year I will probably teach DUI-Alcohol and DUI-Drug class, as I have recently been trained as a DRE (Drug Recognition Expert).

As for why it is so enjoyable....I love having an audience that is excited and willing to learn what it is we do. There are so many misconceptions people have, its great to be able to get out the real information.

That's what a lot of the people who talked to our class said, kfuzz.....That it was good that they got a chance to teach us what the department is really about. I learned so much and really had a great time. When I got up to shoot, I couldn't hit the target for the life of me. They were going to find the side of a barn but figured that would all be for nothing too! LOL! It was really fun!

I don't think we get to shoot at all.

But that's ok, i just keep thinking about all the new things i will learn.
