I never buy from Chevron, Shell or 76. They are a ripoff with the higher prices. Quik Stop, Beacon or whoever is a lot cheaper and it all comes from the same refineries in Benicia. You pay more for the brand name, but gas is gas, generally.

I have to use 89 in the Gold Wing to prevent knocking, but 87 goes in the truck and my wife's car. And yes, the Bay Area and Santa Cruz area are getting hosed on gas prices. Stations next door to the refinery charge more than stations 100 miles away who use the same gas. They claim it's because of "delivery costs", which is BS. It's because they have us by the short hairs and we have to pay what they ask. There's really some lack of fair market trade, as the petroleum producers are in collusion to artificially keep prices high. They have the right to a fair profit, but what they are doing here borders on userious.

Just filled up at Costco today...$1.59 for Super Unleaded. If I'm not mistaken, that's about 5 cents/gal cheaper than my last fill-up, which was about two weeks ago.

Brands like Chevron, Shell, Mobil, etc are still rather high. The Chevron around the corner from my house is asking $1.81.

We saw another $0.04 increase/gallon today. Currently, the CHEAPEST gas in town is $1.35/gallon for Regular. I wager it will go up another $0.04 tomorrow.

Does anyone remember Regular gas STAYING at $0.33/gallon for YEARS? How did we manage that? I'd settle for it STAYING at $1.14/gallon for YEARS, what with inflation and all.....

I sure am glad that Ross Perot didn't make it into office. Didn't he want to raise the gas tax by $5/gallon? I think I am paying about 1.45/gal. Not as bad as it could be.

I lived in the San Francisco area for a few years. When I came down to visit my daughters I noticed that the price of gas was consistently cheaper in the LA area by perhaps $.10/gallon. I moved back down here three years ago but it wasn't because of the gas.

Arco is still cheaper than most other stations in this area where it runs around $1.59 for regular unleaded.

$1.81 and up for 87, over $2 for 90. I think the gas prices here are kept high so the station owners can pay their land taxes etc ... stations in the mountains are selling gas for cheaper, even though the fuel has to be delivered further from the ports.

I'm glad I don't live overseas like Sgt. Lobster, however, I think we're getting ripped in the Bay Area on gas prices ...

Due to problems in Venezuela they are trying to put up the price of petrol in the UK by 41p/61c a gallon - beat that !

You wouldn't believe that the UK is a major producer of crude oil the prices we pay. After the rise it will be pushing

My Nissan Maxima is specifically designed for Super. When you open the fuel filler door there's a label saying Super is recommended.

While it will take regular, in addition to the power loss I also notice a slight drop in gas mileage.

My SUV manual also says not to use Super... our regular went up .05 in the last week, from 1.20 to 1.25 at the cheapest place.

The owner's manual that came with my new minivan said I didn't need the super stuff so I don't buy it. I paid $1.39 yesterday at Arco. It contains methanol but the owner's manual said that's OK also.

Ummmm...$1.71/gal is what I NORMALLY pay for Super Unleaded here in car-crazy Southern California...and that's SELF-SERVE.

And after visiting the UK and paying $4.50/gal for "petrol", I no longer complain about US gas prices.
