  • Responses if attacked by a mob....(watching the "peace protest" in SF)

I don't know the whole story, but I saw some people getting yanked out of a car at a "peace" protest in SF, CA. It reminded me a lot of footage from the LA riots. So....question...

How would you react if you were unfortunate enough to be the victim in this situation? Does anyone know of any case law relating to this?

Personally, I would do everything in my power to get out of the situation without injuring anyone. If that wasn't possible I would very quickly go up the use of force ladder as far as I had to.

What's the penal codes in Cali say? Example- Husband, Wife and child, mob (no weapons visible), numbering in the thirties and higher is attempting to remove you from vehicle/assault you. You are in fear for your life. You go thru the force continuum but the end result is you fire and somebody dies.

How do you think this would turn out for:

    A: Off-duty popo
B: Civie with a CCW (I know, not in Cali!)

honestly, its hard for me to imagine this happening in real life -- after all, why the hell would a mob of peace protestors want to hall me out of my car??

But, purely hypothetically, if I were attacked in this fashion by a mob (any mob, for any reason), I would most likely view it as a deadly threat and act accordingly. Hopefully a show of force would be enough to resolve the situation, but if not, I wouldn't hesitate to defend myself with whatever means were available.

[note: I'm not a LEO, but I do have a CCW and am often armed.]

I call it the gas pedal. Somebody tries to stop my car and pull me out, too bad for whoever is in front of or behind my car cause I'm movin and whatever is in my way won't be for much longer.

jarhead, I was thinking the same thing (Running mofo's over).....If somehow my vehicle was forced to a stop, I think I'd start unloading with my Glock.

Peaceful dragon, watch the news...like I said, I don't have the whole story, but the video is of a minivan in SF.

Hey XRez -- I have no reason to disbelieve you. It just sounds a bit bizarre. Regardless, my respone would be the same no matter how weird it is .

Somebody trying to pull me out of my vehicle ? [Eek!]

It would sound something like this...

Officer....I was being "carjacked" and I feared for my life...I hit the gas thinking I could escape...but when I had to stop, these guys opended the door and started to pull me out...along with my wife and she started screaming...

thats when I pulled out my .45 and warned the people trying to pull us out of the car,as we both feared for our lives....and when they refused I was forced to fire and do 2 tactical reloads....we feared for our lives...we then escaped from the mob and drove directly to the police station for ammo...ummmmm...protection.

                Peaceful/Others:

In NC, we recognize the doctrine of "unequal combat", as do several other states.

Basically, it allows the use of deadly force against an opponent or opponents, even if they do have a deadly weapon per se, IF their size, ability, or sheer numbers cause you (or a "reasonable and prudent person", whoever he is [Wink] ) to still fear that you are about to suffer death or great bodily harm.

                Examples:

130 pound male who is armed is attacked by a 300 pound male who is unarmed.

Female is attacked by a larger male. Female is able to get to a handgun.

                Or, the "mob" situation.

Any of these, if you felt you were about to suffer great bodily harm, and could not easily escape, you would be authorized in using deadly force.

I would not hesitate to use deadly force to prevent a mob from removing me from the safety of my vehicle. Doom on them if they mistake me and my vehicle for someone who will just give up.

I guess it would be considered a social faux pas to administer the coup de grace to someone lying under your rear wheel? [Wink]

This is why I has two specially modiefied 20mm cannons installed under the hood, and the spikes that snap out from the tires.

However, if I'm really concerned, I leave the family car at home and drive to work in my M1. It's a gas hog, but when you need it... [Wink]

                    Seriously, gas first, then 92.

why is it that so many of these big city "peace" protests are organized by socialists, marxists, anarchist, etc. groups???

gee....do you think THAT could be the reason why these "peaceful" protests usually turnout to be anything BUT?

and where on God's green earth do these 18 year old pimply assed college f**** think they know any frikkin' thing about any frikkin' thing??

i was watching the news last night and some little snot nose moron was rambling about the "war for oil" rhetoric. the only thing you know about oil is that your mommy cooks your frikkin' french fries in it.

heaven forbid if they should ever come up with "Smak-o-vision" because i'd be reaching thru the TV screen and pimp slapping a lot of these idiots.

My initial thought was to defend myself with whatever means I had available to end the threat, starting with least and escalating to most lethal: verbal warning, tire iron, display Glock, use Glock, and finally car bumper.

However, I think in reality I would go straight to the bumper force level and get the heck out of there. In that situation there would not be enough time to escalate from warning to moving people with the car. Since life is not like the movies the aggressors would not be coming one at a time, so a 10-shot Glock would only delay the inevitable and if it were truly a mob it would be gruesome if you were overpowered.

The resulting lawsuits from running over people would be staggering though. I can just imagine the lawyers telling the media how I "viciously ran down those defenseless Americans exercising their right to free speech" even though video would clearly show my car being rocked onto two wheels and bricks coming through my windshield

I would do my best not to be there in the first place. Failing that, I would use the car as a battering ram, call a lawyer then call the police to explain what happened.
