Punched in the face

On tuesday, a kid at school came up to me and said i was talking "crap" about him. I told him to leave me alone when he punched me. He got 3 days suspension, and i got a saturday detention (4)hours for giving him a one handed push. Stupid right./ Don't worry i didn't hit back and im ok...just a good shot to the jaw!

Yeah, it's a crock. They call it zero tolerance. My wife and I have had a few heated discussions about it. Last year our granddaughter was in third grade and a boy punched her. When she told me the boy was smaller than her I told her to punch him back the next time. My wife got all concerned that she would be suspended which is the stupid school policy. My opinion was so what? Like a suspension for punching a boy in the third grade is going to ruin her future.

If someone punches you in the face, you punch back. Defend yourself, even if you're going to get a beaten. You deserved the 4 hours detention, you WUSSED out.

Since when does "zero tolerance" mean that you punish the innocent? Are they trying to tell you that they will not tolerate you defending yourself? How nice. So what happens if a teacher gets punched by some 17yo who towers over them? It is still "hands off" or is the teacher allowed to defend him/herself? Are you allowed to defend yourself if the bully has a knife next time? Or is a small push still a "no,no"?

I was suspended a few times in Junior High School for defending myself. On at least one of those suspensions, the other kid even admitted that he had hit me and that I just defended myself. Luckily, my parents believed that I had the right to defend myself even if the school administration didn't share their views.

I got in a couple fights in junior high, the last of which, occurred right in front of the principal and vice principal. The other kid came up to me and punched me in the stomach unprovoked. I knocked him out cold (no schidt) and he got suspended for his trouble. I was okay, because the old man saw it happen.
