Don't ever get too comfortable...My husband only had 9 years to retirement when he lost his job because of a buyout. Never have I seen him so upset. He said he learned there is no such thing as company loyalty.....His 25 years there prove it. Some people kept their jobs, others didn't. And wanna know how he found out he didn't have a job? We had prayed all week he would get a call that he could keep his job here because he knew they needed someone here. He gets a call and, after 25 years of hardwork and loyal service, his boss says, "Sorry, buddy, you're out. We will be in contact about the severance" and he hung up on my poor, stunned husband. And they moved a younger, lesser paid man here at great cost to the company.
My heart just broke for my husband. After 10 months of disappointing interview after disappointing interview, he finally found a wonderful job 2 weeks ago. And the former company is finding out what a terrible mistake they made. The new guy is in over his head and they keep calling my husband, asking how he did this and what did he do for something else and his remark was, "You didn't want my knowledge 10 months ago and I'm not giving it to you now. You are now MY competitor".
I smiled when I heard that because it has to worry them. He is very well thought of in his field. And I understand the former companies sales are...umm...falling...fast.

Thats why i am trying to finagle a way to keep the grocery store job and be a cop. That way i have something to fall back on if either job decides they don't need me anymore. I figure there will always be bad people and we all need to eat, so either way i am safe.

Well, this happened to my husband so fast, it was unbelievable. These last 10 months have been the hardest of our whole marriage with the exception of our son getting sick. Now that he has a job and we can relax a bit, we can say we sure have learned a lot about human nature. Those that didn't get jobs kind of banded together, having breakfast or lunch, giving each other moral support. Yea, right. If my husband mentioned he had sent a resume in, lo and behold, all these people did too, to the same companies, knowing my husband was trying to get a job with these companies. One even stole a job right from under his nose when he went behind my husbands back and offered to take less then my husband was asking. He got the job, my husband didn't. My husband learned the hard way to tell his so-call "friends" N-O-T-H-I-N-G.
Even with this new job, all of them sent in resumes, 2 of them pointing out they had been above my husband in the company, therefore had more knowledge. They actualy expected them to fire my husband after a week and hire them I guess.
It's a dog-eat-dog world. I learned, as my husband to did, to never trust anyone. People he called friends backstabbed him in an instant if it meant they had a job.
Now, they all say to him that it had nothing to do with their "friendship", it was business pure and simple. I might add that, no, my husband did not do the same things to them. He just learned to say nothing about jobs he applied for. And no, he does not meet these people for lunch anymore.

Yes, many times. I usually go to Monster.com and snoop around. I know there are other job sites around, but I use this the most.

I do not want to find a job right now. I am very happy with the lack of work I preform and the fact that I get paid to do it is very pleasing to me. IF I get offered a Government job where I will do even less then I might go for it because I will start with over 9 years senority in any fed gov job as my military will count LOL
