If this is an "arms cache" then I've got a freakin' arsenal!

I was watching the TV news last night and they led off with a story about a "major arms cache" that was discovered in a local hotel room. Apparently someone spotted people taking gun cases into the room and called the police. The police discovered the following:
- 8 shotguns
- OVER (my emphasis) 200 rounds of ammunition
As it turned out, the owners of the above equipment were, in fact, up to no good and it's good they were caught. But the news story made it sound as if they had recovered an arms shipment!

Now it's no surprise that the media likes to play up stories like this. But 8 guns? 200 rounds of ammo? I've got more than that in my basement, for crying out loud!

Sounds like me and a few friends going dove hunting. I'd really hate to think of how they would describe what I have at home! Do you by any chance have a link to an article kirch? I'm curious why people taking shotguns into their hotel room would warrant a visit from the police. Must have been something else going on.

my friends carry more stuff than that in their trucks...

and 8 shotguns and a mere 200 rounds of ammo wouldnt even be enough in a boat to get us started hunting.

I can't find the link on the story, but three 17 year olds and one 16 year old were arrested. They allegedly admitted that they were going to meet up with a group of people who were traveling through the Madison area, and they were going to rob them.

In addition to the guns and ammunition, they had ski masks, radar detectors, and police scanners.

"Kevin K. Dyer, 18 year old from Madison was charged with operating a motor vehicle without owner's consent. Brenton L. Jones-Mosley, 17 year old from Madison was charged with possession of THC and possession of a short barrel shotgun. Micah A. Degolyer, 17 year old from Madison was charged with operating a motor vehicle without owner's consent and carrying a concealed a weapon. 16 year old male from Cottage Grove was charged with casual possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia and minor possession tobacco products."

The guns that they found are irrevalent. I'd be willing to bet that since they are all juveniles, they'll be getting probation, maybe some time in the juvey detention ,center maybe not.

The actual charges are pretty minor other than the short barrelled shotgun and the concealed weapon. It appears that they should have been charged with MIP, or minor in possesion" of a weapon which is a more serious charge.

As for the guns and the ammo and the masks and other assorted stuff that they had, you cant charge someone for what they might do with something.

As for the confessions of the minors, they would be ruled as inadmissable unless their parents were present when questioned.

This article is more hype than reality I think.

LOL, kinda. I had 6 guns in my truck the day it was stolen from the parking lot at work. One has been recovered so far.
