  • Coolest Movie Cars

Saw a list today of what they called the 10 Coolest Movie Cars.

    In no particular order:

    1) 1967 Shelby Mustang from Gone in 60 secs.

    2) Lexus 2056 from Minority Report

    3) Dodge Charger from the movie Blade

    4) The Plymouth from Christine

5)1977 Trans Am from Smokey & the Bandit.

    6) Speedracer's Mach 5.

    7) 007's Aston Martin DB5.

    8) The Jaguar from Austin Powers

    9) The Batmobile (from the new Batman movies).

    10) The car from Mad Max.

I'm still wondering how a couple made it on the list. Who should have been on it?

    9) The Batmobile (from the new Batman movies).
Only the one from the first two I hope (I think there have been a total of three on-screen). The rest blew.

Here's my personal top 20. Ten are from movies and ten are from television.

        Movies:

        10. White 1970 Dodge Challenger from the original "Vanishing Point," not the goofy mid-nineties FOX remake starring Jason Priestly.

        9. Ron Howard's white 1958 Chevy from "American Graffiti"

        8. Red and white 1958 Plymouth Grand Fury from "Christine"

        7. 1977 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am from "Smokey and the Bandit"

        6. Steve McQueen's dark green 1968 Mustang from "Bullit."

        5. Bad guy's black 1968 Dodge Charger from "Bullit."

        4. John Wayne's dark green 1970 Pontiac Firebird from "McQ."

        3. 1979 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am from "Smokey and the Bandit II." I just like the 1978-1981 models better than the '76-'77.

        2. The Batmobile from the first Batman movie. The others sucked.

        1. The red 1962 Ferrari California Spyder from "Ferris Bueller's Day Off." Thank God the one in the movie was a kit- car. I want a garage like that someday, just not overlooking a ravine.

        Television:

        10. The tan GMC pickup from "The Fall Guy." Along with the A-Team van, that truck made me a GMC truck man over a Chevy truck man. (My current ride is a red GMC Sierra.)

        9. The original Batmobile.

        8. Face's red and white Corvette from "The A-Team."

        7. The A-Team van.

        6. KITT from "Knight Rider," the shadowy flight into a dangerous world of a man who does not exist.

        5. Yellow 1970 Plymouth 'Cuda from Nash Bridges.

        4. Black Ferrari Daytona Spyder from "Miami Vice." Thank God it was also a kit-car.

        3. Red Ferrari 308 GTS from "Magnum, P.I." Unfortunantly, it was not a kit-car.

        2. The General Lee. (What?! Not number one on Dukeboy's list?! )

        1. The white 1986 Ferrari Testarossa from Miami Vice. Without a doubt, the coolest ride ever on television.

Other notable mentions include Rockford's tan Firebird, Tubb's teal 1963 Caddy convertible, Austin Power's "Shaguar," Boss Hogg's Caddy, Daisy's yellow Road Runner, A.J. Simon's red Camaro, Walker's Dodge Ram, and any of the James Bond cars.

Is it just me, or did GMC truck have a lock on providing trucks for TV shows during the '80's? In addition to the "Fall Guy" pickup and the A-Team van, there was a GMC K-5 Jimmy on "Magnum,P.I." (I think it's plate was "Robin 3."); they used a S-15 Jimmy on "Riptide;" and, although very rarely seen, on "CHiPs" John's P.O.V. was a blue GMC pickup. GMC's streak continued into the '90's, providing Walker's grey GMC Sierra in the first few season's of "Walker, Texas Ranger."

I miss the old days of TV when the cars were just as or more important than the actors themselves. There just aren't many cool cars on shows today.

Little bit of trivia for ya, the owner of a pawn shop in Greenville SC actually has one of the 308's from the series, he can be seen scootin around town in it every once in awhile, he even has a license plate that says "MAGNMPI" or something like that.

"although very rarely seen, on "CHiPs" John's P.O.V. was a blue GMC pickup."

You forgot to mention that it was a flair side with a yellow series of stripes and that it had a roll bar in the bed to. Baker was the MAN!!!!!

Woo hoo! I agree- 360hp, a six speed and four doors: now that's a car that shovels!

Then there was Ponch's God awful gold colored T/A. It was a '76, but damn...why gold? Musta been that 70's thing.

I gotta put Eleanor as my number 1 pick. Bandit's '77 is way up there along with Bullitt's '68 Mustang.

As far as TV cars, the 60's Batmobile is the S***! Anything George Barris did is tops in my book.

Personally, I love the car from Automan. It always killed me when a corner was taken at right angles and Desi Arnez(?) Jnrs face was slammed into the side window. Classic.

                          You men and your cars...

                          *snickers*

Seriously...I love a car that goes fast, doesn't matter if James Bond or Jeff Gordon is driving it. Ever notice how the bad guys always seem to drive Range Rovers in black?

I like 'Walker's' 1979 Dodge Ramcharger with the fully blown 400cid from 'Lone Wolf MacQuade'.

We must not leave out Mrs. Peel' Lotus in the original Avengers, the Charger in Dirty Mary, Crazy Larry, and all the cars used in Steve McQueen's LeMans.
