  • Member numbers put into perspective

Recently, someone from another forum was bragging to me about how their forum passed Officer.com in member numbers, so I thought I'd let you all know how to put them into some perspective.

The forum that passed us has 2806 members registered at the moment. However, 1511 (give or take 1 or 2) of those registered people have never posted. Another 530 (again, give or take 1 or 2) posted once and never returned. That means 765 of their members stuck around long enough to make 2 posts or more.

That forum also went for a period where it made people register simply to view the forum.

This forum has 2753 registered members as of this post. A while back, we deleted hundreds of members that registered over a year ago and had made no posts. That took those numbers from our total. Currently, of the 2753 registered, 502 made 1 post only and 685 have registered and never posted. That means at least 1566 members made 2 posts or more........ a mere 801 more posting members than the forum that is bragging to me.

So, if their goal is to just get people registered, then they win. If that were our goal, we wouldn't have deleted the hundreds we did delete.

To the 1500+ members that stayed and posted, thank you for your participation.

and I'd like to know, How many of their members, mods or admins have posted over 8,000 times ??? (I am a bit concerned that I'm being used as a pawn in this internet membership/posting war).. Just kidding... we all know this is the best forum around !! Now back to my random thoughts...
Have you ever noticed? Anybody going slower than you is an idiot, and anyone going faster than you is a maniac.

I don't understand. Members have posts? What kind of posts do we supposedly have? Why haven't I got mine? Is this a cop thing? Why does this always happen with this 'Niteshift' character, and what is his 'weakness' Specops refers to? Is he some kind of trouble maker? Somebody help me.....!

hmmm...I wonder if Nite made it so we have to keep logging in after a couple of posts for some sort of 'my site has more people logging in each day' war..? (I'd die laughing if he did).....LOL...jk....

No, there is no need to encourage more posts. In fact, due to space considerations, we deleted hundreds of old posts too.

Just out of curiosity how many of the active members are individual people and how many are the same person posting under different names?

When that forum started, I was surprised to get a "welcome to the forum" email in my mailbox,..twice! Once under each of two Officer.com username's I have here. It seems they were registering people who they thought would be interested, whether those people wished to be registered or not. At least two of those 2806 members are me, and I never wanted to be one. I'm sure I wasn't the only one. I'll bet a lot of you are counted as one of their 2806 and you don't even know it.

Also, Officer.com was recently about to go over 3,000 when we deleted several hundred usernames because they had never posted. If we didn't periodically prune usernames, we'd be up around 4,000 by now.

                      Mike,

Night was making reference to those posts you see along the roadways in Texas, all strung with barbed wire. Each of us get a certificate of ownership for one or more, depending on how often we submit comments to this forum.

Then, each certificate can be refunded for upwards of $100.00 per post. Those people who have accumulated 1,000 posts or more will be forwarded a check for that total amount.

In your case, your check was forwarded through Sgt Daves address. Did you get it?

No, but it's just because Niteshift doesn't like me.

Well, if you repaired transmissions for free, more people would like you, Mike.

And your taste in rifles, well, this is a public forum so I'll not go there.

I'm telling you this for your own good.

I do repair transmissions for free, so you are full of it. Cheap old rifles with monte crisco stocks suck!

Mitzi, go figure, among other things!
