  • Internet security...or LACK of?

I recently received an e-mail from DirecTV, apparently in response to a query re: my account password...which they thoughtfully provided in the e-mail.

Only thing is, I NEVER INQUIRED ABOUT MY PASSWORD.

Is it any wonder they call it interNET?

That's happened to me before on other sites. All someone has to do is type in your user name and the company automatically sends your password to whatever e-mail you specified when you signed up. I don't really think it's a security problem unless other people have access to your e-mail.

if i have your login name i can use a brute forcer program to easily gain access to most cheesy passwords.

I also received a 'returned' e-mail to my account. It 'appeared' that I had sent an e-mail to 'someone' and it bounced back. Only prob is, I didn't send it, don't regonize the addy, etc.

NOone has access to my e-mail account. In the event I'm forced to use a public computer(school), I always delete the history cache, close out the account and even use the 'more secure' settings.

        This is weirding me out....
