  • My Monday night... run-in with the Country Shireff

monmday was a very interesting day for me. I was sitting in a local nature preseve with 3 of my friends, we were just chatting and haveing a good time. we were not doing anything remotely illeagal. this park closes at 1030 PM so when that tiume came we walked over to the car got in and started to leave. as we drove out the entrance a car came from behind us and low and behold it was a county deputy. he truned his lights on and we immediately stoped the car and waited. the deputy ask the driver for her lisence and registation, and all that good stuff. he then asked what we were doing there so late to which the driver replyed. we were just hanging out talking. he said alright, remind us the park closed at 1030 and let us go. we then decided to go out in the country and watch stars at the side of the road by a farm field owned by a person in the cars garndfather. after sitting out there for about an hour we decided to leave and head home for the night. right before we got back in the car and another car came down this lonely gravel road. as soon as the driver turned the car on the car that was driveing twoard us turn on a spotlight, we were all like oh no not agian. when the deputy got out of the car once agian he walked over. he then said didn't i jkust see you guys before? we were all like yea that was us. and he asked what we were doing out there. we told him looking at stars. he then asked us all for ids and ran checks on us. after 5 mins he gave us our ids back, and told us that we were to far on the road and werew a taffic hazard(we found this a little unsettleing consider ing we reparked the car right after we got there and pulled completely off the road strictly for that reason) and the he told us if he saw us agian he was going to give us all a ticket( every one in the car was 18 so there was no curfew for us) he then let us go on our way home, which we did do. but thats not the end of the story. the nexzt day about midafter noon me and the same group of friends were eating at the local country Kitchen. one of the waiterse walked over to us and asked if we had gotten stoped twice the nightr before we were like yea we did and by the same cop to. the waitres said yea i know it was the same cop. "i was in the car" I asked if she got arrested for something she was said no she wasn't being arrested at the time. she then left us to our lunch. the thought occured to me... what was a waitres doing in a country deputies car? so what are any of your thoughts on this.

I have no problem being stoped at night and being ask what we are doing, thats his job, and we understand that we were just a little mad that he threatened us with tickets when were not doing anything illeagal.

thank for the comments on this.

I am assuming that the Deputy was on patrol of the area and probably checking you out because of problems with break-ins, thefts, damage. For those sorts of reasons it would make sense for him checking you out. If you and your friends were not drinking, not doing anything else illegal and were not acting smart-alecky towards the Deputy, and you are telling us the truth about how he spoke to you, then his attitude was wrong.
Now, about the waitress - maybe she was participating in a ride-along/work-experience program. If she was, then she should have kept her mouth shut about the Deputy checking you, because that is none of her business to be saying anything to you. If she was in the Deputy's car because she was either in trouble with the law, or was a victim, again she had no business talking to you about the stops.
If the waitress was in the car just because the Deputy needed female companionship, or something more, then the Deputy may need to be spoken to by his Sheriff.

I have one more thing to add about the waitress. If she was in the cruiser because she was in trouble or was a victim........he had no business stopping you either time. His main concern should have been the waitress that was in either criminal or protective custody.

I swear it that it wasn't me! I don't even waitress anymore!

De`ja`vu` for me...I recall this waitress thing coming up before in another thread. How do they get such a bad name? Everyone that I worked with was either married or was in a relationship. Not that we didn't have customers come in that we thought were total hotties (gotta love those construction guys!), but we never hung out w/them.

If that Deputy was on duty and had the waitress there for reasons other than job related...bad news. Wrong time to mix business with pleasure.

thanks for the imput. I did a little research the past couple of days and found out my county's sheriffs dept. hasn't donw ride alongs sence the explorer post fell though. I didn't say anything about the other night, but now i at least know that she wasn't in there on a ride along. but i guess i didn't get in trouble so i won't push the issue anymore. but that doews make me wonder...
