  • Criminal Impersonation ???

This is a case I seen the other day....

A company offers free software to download on the internet from their site as well as at download.com. , But the download never finishes. The person went to the company's web site and tried to download the free software, but still could not get it.An email was sent to the company requesting the software. The company then emailed back saying they would fix the D/L problem. While waiting, the person went to a download request form on the site and entered fake information to see it this would help with th D/L . Now,our question is.....Is this classed as impersonation to receive (free) software ? this matter as not gone to court yet, just thought I get some input..... ** Thank **

Criminal impersonation how? The software was free. It's not like he was trying to scam the company. Why is it going to court? Or is there more to the story?

Nope---Nothing else to the story, the company says, from what I understand is that the person in question entered a fake PD and address,so they say it impersonation.Don't know here, why or how.
      Thanks for reply

PD as in Police Department? If he says he is an officer, he better be one, otherwise it is impersonation. Claiming to be a cop is a lot different than giving a freeware site a bogus name to avoid spam.
