My motivation is my conscience. Knowing that whatever I do, on duty, or off, is something I can live with. Money, sex and accolades from peers are all great...but in the end if I can't look myself in the mirror then it wasn't worth it.
I know it sounds corny but I believe in JJ DID TIE BUCKLE:

    Integrity

    Unselfishness
    Courage
    Knowledge
    Loyalty
    Enthusiasm
These 14 traits are what I shoot for.

For me, probably love and criticism (depending on who is doing the criticising, if it's someone I love, then it's going to motivate me)....
If someone I love criticizes me, it only motivates me not to love them quite so much. If they are critical, they probably don't think much of me, so why should I think so much of them? Now I'm not talking about suggestions or advice sincerely given with my best interests in mind, I'm talking about unnecessary, nitpicking type criticizm. I'm talking about the people you can never please no matter how hard you try.

But I digress. I am motivatived by truth and justice. And love I suppose. I'd do almost anything for someone who loves me.

Thalia and JB, when I made the comment about someone I love criticising me, I wasn't thinking in the prevalent, abusive sort of way. I've been there, done that and have the t-shirt. I was thinking about two things when I wrote that,

              1. If I don't care about you and more importantly respect you, I'm not going to give a rat's @#$ what you say to me or think about me.

              2. When I refer to criticism, I am talking about little things. Suggestions, not orders, not nit picky, not mean spirited... for instance... I like to drive fast, but if the man of my dreams asked me not to speed because he cared about me and didn't want me to be killed. That would motivate me to slow down, a lot more than any ticket ever would.
Have you ever noticed? Anybody going slower than you is an idiot, and anyone going faster than you is a maniac.

Well, if it were that type of criticizm from someone I love, it would motivate. I live to please

                    My primary motivator is motivation.

Whenever I find myself lacking motivation I imagine what it would be like to be someone who has alot of motivation, then I proceed with laying around and eating chocolate and drinking coke and complaining about how unmotivated I am. [Eek!]

I think that my main motivator is pride. Pride in the job I do, and in how I do it. Pride in the fact that my word IS my bond.

I don't want to do something that is going to cause me pain when I look in the mirror in the morning. Nor do I wish to cause pain to those that love me, by doing something disgusting.

Now, that being said, if I could just shed about eighty pounds, and get my hair back . . .

I would like to say that I'm always motivated by God....
but, I would have to say that love is there, too.

There are three basic categories of motivation. 1. Greed/ Lust
                            2. Fear
                            3. Love/ virtue/ integrity

Any motivations by the top two will not bring you happiness.

Geez, this is deep. My motivation for doing most stuff is just to do what needs to be done. Nike said it best: "Just do it." If it winds up being something difficult, I get it done out of a refusal to back down. It becomes personal. That goes for lifting heavy weights, dealing with a situation on the job or fixing a leaky sink.
