I'm not sure how many people have looked through this website (http://www.craigslist.com) but it's a free place to basically do yard sale-ing on-line. Kind of like eBay and Yahoo used to be.

Anyway, there seems to be a lot of trusting people on the site, doing everything from leaving there home numbers and addresses on the site, to asking blatantly for 420 partners etc...

I list items on the site to sell (tires for my old truck, kitchen stuff we're consolidating etc ...) and some ya-hoo responds asking if I would be interested in taking 420 for trade ... and then leaves his name and phone number! It doesn't take much to use reverse look-up to find him.

I SHOULD tell him to bring what he has, and then have the local PD waiting here for him, or, better yet, make the arrest myself, and THEN call the Sheriff's Dept. to meet us. Since HE initiated the offer, it's not entrapment ... just stupidity if he follows through.

And yes, I've already thought about not wanting him to know where I live, so, I'd meet him somewhere nearby, say, the mall parking lot?

If you get a chance, browse through, and see what kinds of things people offer on there ... I'm in the SF Bay Area, but there are also locations in other major cities across the country. Anyone up for an internet sting operation? *lol*

Im familiar with the site. But know they wont press charges for 11357 in SF county. Actually they wont press for anything. They have the worst conviction rate where ive seen 12 page rap sheet full of "dismissed..insufficient evidence..furtherance of justice..lack of..etc etc" 211's turn into a 488. Go figure.

You gotta go through with this. That is one dumb doper Better yet ask if he's got anything stronger to trade and see what he offers! Its not entrapment now even if you suggest something else because he's shown he's willing to distribute. You'll win O-com officer of the year if you pull it off

I would suggest involving the local PD/SO from the start so you don't get into any hot water over this.

unfortunately, I know that SF probably would dismiss it ... however, I'm not sure Marin County would. The other option is making the "exchange" on Federal property, where possession is still illegal, and not dismissed under Prop. 214 ... is that the right Prop?

Marin County, although fairly liberal as a whole, is pretty good about prosecuting cases SF drops or dismisses. Driving while suspended can get you 6 months jail time, for example, while SF just imposes a fine.

I made a stop a few months ago in Marin on my way home, for what I thought was going to be a DUI. Driver doing 60 in a 25 zone, 9pm Saturday night. When I asked for his license, he told me he didn't have one ... his g/f was a missing run-a-way juvenile (16 years old) out of LA (who was 9 mos. pregnant with his child ... he's 20) ... so, they're actually going with the statutory rape, and adding the speeding and unlicensed driver charges to those. All from a speeding contact.

Anyway, I'll have to think about whether I should really pursue the doper sting .... I'll talk to our CIB division and see what they think.

It would be pretty funny though, huh?
