Christmas Turkey - How much does yours weigh?

I usually get around 16 pounds but I might be getting a fatter one this year. I usually get it about a week before Christmas.

I buy the "freezer to oven" stuffed Butterball and someone always makes additional stuffing because they hate the stuffing from the turkey.

What kind of Turkey do you usually get? Fresh or frozen? How many pounds do you get? Do you also serve a ham with it or have the Ham for New Years?

Hmmmmm, gravy and mashed potatoes.

My mom usually only makes a ham for Christmas, no turkey.

What about New Years? Does everyone here fix sauerkraut for New Years?

Rachel, I am not a ham person but I sure like a slice during Christmas/New Years... with pineapple or a nice spicy apple sauce. Never had the sauerkraut for New Years though.

For New Years the southern tradition is smoked hog jowls and some black eyed peas, collard greens, and some fresh cooked chittlins!

And it's um um good!

We usually have a Xmas eve buffet... home-made sloppy joe, hot roast beef in the crock pot, cold sliced turkey (brought by someone...so i'm not sure the weight lol), dips, smoked salmon, cold peeled shrimp, baked brie, potato salad, hummus, home-made baked beans, and a dessert buffet (god i'm hungry now ). Xmas day we usually had a small turkey and a ham. but the last few years we didnt have an Xmas day dinner. this year we're not doing Christmas due to mom's illness.

This year, I'm brining a 4.75 pound Honeysuckle White whole boneless turkey breast. Honeysuckle White is the only brand that I really like.

We'll probably have a honey glazed ham as well.

We're roast beast people...with tons of gravy and mash ..and the usual assorted sides.

Been busy doing my Christmas baking...tons o' cookies...YUM YUM.

First hubby says I also have to mention the Yorkshire pudding...LOLOL

As for baking, I'm doing everything from chocolate chip cookies to shortbread to baklava...I have tons of recipes, give me a vague idea of what you are looking for and i might be able to pass on some great recipes.

chittlins, WW, are pig intestines, WW, usualy fried, I think. I have seen them once and NO, I did not try them. YUCK!
I'm not sure what we will have at my parents this year. Last year, Dad tried frying a turkey and it was a disaster. lol But we had ham. This will probably be the last year they will cook. My Dad is 81 and my Mother 74. SO, now it will be up to all of us. It's going to upset my Mother, I know, but dinner was barely edible last year. We are all bringing stuff this year and she isn't going to be happy.
But last year, the only thing really edible was the fruit salad and the desserts! lol
We all filled our plates and when Mother wasn't looking, one by one went and dumped our stuff in the garabage out back then snuck back in with clean plates. lol
