Underage LEO weapon purchase?

A buddy of mine, 20 years old, just got hired onto the SO as a Corrections Officer. Our agency does allow us to carry off-duty w/o a CCW, but he is having issues with purchasing a sidearm. Is he pretty much SOL as far as buying a handgun until he is 21? And if he is able to find a legal means to purchase one, are there going to be issues with him carrying off-duty?

Don't know about FL...but Ohio has an exception in the 21 handgun rule for commissioned LEOs ages 18-21

Im a 20 year old in the FHPA, and the SO everywhere in the state is the same way. IF you are given a gun as a gift by ANYONE over 21, its legal.

I think the law just pertains to purchase from a dealer,
any sworn officer can carry ccf/ ccw from age 19
as long they meet the training requirements for sec 943
which will be on the bottom of yer certificate....and can carry
as a private citizen with yr badge and i.d. card w/o the actual ccw/cccf
permit, your aggeny will inform you of what you can and cannot do
in regards to yr sworn position.

I went to school with this guy who was all of 18, and a Conservation Officer in the county he lived in(sworn LEO). His mother had to buy his gun for him. He got as much of a chuckle out of that as did the rest of us; old enough to be a cop, but not old enough to buy his own gun.

When I was in the police acdy. We had a guy that was 20 and his mom and to buy his weapon for him. There was no problem with him carrying it. He could not buy one.. go to war at 18 but can't buy a handgun at 18. what with that.....
