  • Too much or too little training on EDP's?

EDP's seem to be an interaction that most LE will have to deal with at various times in their career. Do most today think that the training they were provided either back in the acadamy or ongoing has been pretty good? If you could provide training or advice to new officers on dealing with EDP's what would it be? (besides the normal.......run, duck and cover )

(just wondering what the mindset is as I am seeing more and more training coming around focusing on this matter)

Considering the number of incidents we've had around here lately, FAR too little...

Sorry, it is the term used in a lot of training courses, I should have spelled it out.

thats a good question. lately our training has been more focused on the recognition of a edp rather then assuming the individual is just simply upset over certain matters

I agree that most training probably comes from first hand experience. I also think there should be pay increases especially for documented training. Encounters with EDP's can be time consuming and often require a little more training to keep the situation in control. Of course, getting departments to understand that is an uphill battle.
