  • My department helped me propose to my girlfriend!!!

Here is how it went down...

I convinced my girlfriend to do a ride-along with me. I wasn't working today, but I came into the police department to change into my uniform and "pretended" to work while she was there.

Here is the cool part. My Sergeant was able to get our police dispatchers involved in it as well. So when I gave him the "thumbs up" to proceed, our dispatcher "dispatched" a large loud party with multiple drunk and disorderly people at a park. My Sergeant suggested that ALL of our available police units respond by having a meeting place prior to getting to the park.

I took the lead and arrived at the park. My girlfriend still thinks that we are going to a loud party with drunk people all over the place. She was afraid to exit the car and I told her to get out of the car with me and that she will be protected because there was 5 additional police units behind me. She exited my car and we walked into the park. The rest of my police co-workers followed.

Soon, my girlfriend noticed some familiar faces. I had about 15 members of our family and friends hide in the park until we showed up. My girlfriend saw them and was surprised to see them. She was wondering what they were doing there. My co-workers lined up behind me and I got down on one knee and proposed to my girlfriend.

    She said yes!!

I informed dispatch that everything was good. Our dispatcher asked my girlfriend what the answer was and she stated "Yes." Our dispatcher congratulated us over the radio and what was unique was that other departments and the county were monitoring our frequency. The other departments and the county also came on the air congratulating us. I told my dispatchers that I would like to get a copy of the transmissions and they will make me a tape.
Also, the proposal was videotaped...although the videographer wasn't a good videographer, it's better than nothing.

All in all, with the immense planning and stress, it was well worth it. I was happy that my Sergeant let it go as far as it did along with the rest of the shift that was there to congratulate me.

So now, I need to get used to calling my girlfriend "My Fiancee" now...

That's great! Back when my mom wrote for our local magazine, she wrote this story on all kinds of odd proposal situations that people used. I'm sure that one definitely would have been in there!

Good luck with your future wife!

Thats great man, congratulations. Count yourself lucky for having a PD that will stand up for you like that and that is willing to be involved in you as more than just someone holding a position for them.

A buddy of mine proposed by having another unit in his city stop his girlfriend for a traffic violation. The officer who did the stop faked it like he wanted her out of the car for field sobriety and when she got out he was waiting on one knee.

Congrats again...BTW...that was an awesome idea!!
Nobody ever wants to have to fight, but its a darn good idea for someone to know how.

That's so cool.. She's a lucky woman to have you go to all that trouble to make it special for her and very unique and memorable. I also like the other story about the traffic stop, that was cool too. It's nice to see there are some creative men in the world !!! Congrats !!!
Have you ever noticed? Anybody going slower than you is an idiot, and anyone going faster than you is a maniac.

Hey Blue, Congratulations both on your up coming marriage, AND on the department you chose to go to work for. There are not a lot of them out there that would have given you that support.

Of course a lot of them would not have "had the time" to do it. But I think it was a neat and probably very unique situation!

... is this going to turn into a "This Is How I Asked My Girlfriend/Fiancee/Wife" to marry me thread? If so, I must add my story.

CONGRATS BLUE! May God bless your relationship!

The proposed date will be June 28, 2003.

It's not completely official only because there needs to be some family consulting and some traditions to be followed, but that is the date so far

Jeeper, that's what I was wanting to do. Something like a roadblock/checkpoint. And by doing in front of the black and white I'd get it on cam.
