No, that would be Detroit you are thinking of. The southwest quadrant of Michigan is for the most part conservative and a little more laid back than the east side. Lansing, Kalamazoo and Ann Arbor (big-university towns) are about the only other Michigan towns known for their riots.

Where is the responsibility for those who flee the police? Why would the department reconsider their pursuit police? It sounds just fine to me, the deputy stopped pursuing on his own due to the speeds which is his call to make. It's the bonehead running at fault for his own death.

I am a Benton Harbor City officer, and have been fighting these A-holes for a few days now. What is interesting is, it wasn't even a city officer who was involved. It was a county dep and township officer involved. So, I guess it only makes sense to burn down your neighborhood, stab, shoot, etc in the CITY that had no involvement in that drug dealers death. How retarded is that. They are nothing but a bunch of animals. I go back in tomorrow for another 18 hours of this crap, and I hope I get my hands on the ones that broke out my patrol car windows and hit my partner in the head with a brick. Thank God she had her riot gear on.

I keep hearing on the news that this "was the breaking point", well I think that's bull****!

The dead guy was a thug, and a stupid one at that. He lost his license over a drug offense, then he decides to drive, and he even screwed that up by speeding, when he knew he had a suspended DL. When the cops try to pull him over, he crashes into a house and dies. Now can someone please tell me how this could be "the breaking point"?

It's not like BHPD made him drive, or made his dumb*** run into a stationary object and die. They didn't beat him down without cause, and they didn't shoot an unarmed man, so WTF are the rabble rousers crying about?

Police harassment you say, well junior didn't have a DL, and he had drugs in his possession at the time of the accident, and then he decided that he could play SpeedRacer. So how is that harassment?

All I can say is, the rioters of Benton Harbor had better be glad that I'm not in charge, cause if I was, I can promise you, there would not have been a second night of rioting!

Oh, forgot to add...I got into a huge argument with a coworker today over this topic....he seems to parrot the "breaking point" mantra. He also went on to blather some crap about "yeah, if a bad guy is breaking the law and runs, that's bad....but two wrongs don't make a right". When asked what he meant by "two wrongs", he strongly indicated that "a cop chasing a bad guy when he had no chance of catching him was wrong"...."he should have known better"....etc.

When did it become the cops fault when a bad guy commits a crime, runs from the police, and hurts some innocent people in the process (well, in this case, the bad guy just removed himself from the gene pool)?

Sometimes I really question continuing the pursuit of a career in LE....nothing but BullSh** and idiots everywhere you look......oh, and it's probably the fault of a cop.
