  • Over-re-acting??

Ok, I would like to know if ya think I over re-acted to the following situation......

Couple gal pals and I went to the mall. I was ordering a slushy when I feel this disgusting wormy groping on my behind too close to a certain area. I turn around real fast "WTF?!?" and see this guy right behind me (like in his 30's I'd say)...he's got this awful grin on his face. I tell him to back off in so many words, and I watch him turn around and walk away. So I resumed paying for my slushy and the guy grabs my *** again. I yelled so loud "PERVERT!" (lol...thas the first thing that came to mind.) He called me slut and some other things, and I, in a fit of complete ****ed-off-ness, punched him in the nose! I think I may have hurt him a bit more than I meant to, but anyways I did punch him. People clapped and security came over asked if I was OK, then say to this guy "If ya harrass any more people today we will have to escort you out of the mall"...Sounded real wimpy to me. Then this gal next in line is like "You over-re-acted." Did I over-re-act? Was the situation handled properly? I would like to know, Thanx!

156...why do you doubt me? No, I was simply debating whether or not to post this when I made my post in ANOUNCEMENTS earlier. All my friends know what happened anyay...they saw with their own eyes what happened. and what do you mean by "more embellishments"...? Anyways, I'd just like some objective opinions on whether or not I handled the situation alright.

Based on your description of what happened I don't think you over-reacted at all. You gave the guy ample warning when you told him to back off. If you were paying for your slushie, I would also assume you were stuck between him and the cashier's table. At this point, in my opinion, you are justified in using reasonable force to solve the problem.

I'd say that you wouldn't have over-reacted if, after the first grope, you turned and around and started whoopin' up on him until somebody pulled you off.

THIS is what I have a 'problem' with. It SOUNDS like mall security has had PRIOR DEALINGS with this individual.....and has done NOTHING about it. IMO, you should file charges against the POS.

I'd say well done, you didn't overreact, the fella had it coming.

I also don't think 156 was wrong to question you about it with the separate postings. If all is on the up and up, good on you for striking back.

You guys really think that was the right thing to do? I don't. I would have told him, "If you do that again, I'm going to tell security, so I suggest you quit groping me right now." I don't know, maybe I would resort to violence if there was nobody around, but with people around everywhere it would just make more sense to walk away, it isn't like your trapped there and the only thing you can do to protect yourself is to punch him. I don't know maybe that's just me though.

I don't think anyone is suggesting that you'd be wrong for NOT opening a can of whoop ***, just that if you did, you'd be morally and ethically righty-tighty.

Legally is a whole nuther ball game, though. But there is a great deal of latitude with how you can handle these things curbside.....dontchaknow!

Preverts like this are dirt.. scum... and they frequently engage in other predatory sexual behavior, to include rape, et al.

remember.. just because a peeper starts raping.. doesn't mean he quits peeping!

And no one would fault you if you took that course of action Angel, and I agree that it may be the preferred action. I'm no fan of violence, even in my chosen profession. However, I do think there is something to be said for the public humiliation this guy got (and had coming).

Of course it could go two ways: either he twists off next time, or he rethinks his chosen hobby now that someone has punked him.

Threatening him with calling the mall guards isn't going to do any good. He just committed a couple counts of battery on her. She had every right to get physical with him. He is (most certainly) bigger and stronger; older and more sophisticated, a stranger, grasping her in a sexual manner against her consent even after she told him to stop. Outside of being pizzed off, she needed to take immediate defensive action to prevent further battery. A strike to the nose is an appropriate defensive response.

It is amazing that the mall ninjas didn't call the police and ensure that he was arrested right there for battery. Warning him that he was (shudder) going to have to leave the mall? Glad they are out there protecting the customers.

I agree with Shooter and Ateamer.

He was warned once, and came back for more.
That would be 2 counts of assault, here.

He got actually less than he deserved, IMHO.

Security obviously isn't into protecting the customers there. He probably does it because all anyone ever does is whine to security about him. If he got a few more punches in the nose he'd probably move off somewhere else.
