  • Just some pics from my summer adventures

This season, I've volunteered some time to be the staff writer of the Valley Off Road Racing Association. It sort of fulfills a dream of mine to become published in a national publication, and it has opened another avenue as I will be covering my 4x4 club's annual run at Hollister for a national 4x4 magazine.

So what is off road racing? I'm sure there are some of you that have seen it on TV or even have a working knowledge of it.

Off road racing takes place in several different areas of the country and I'm sure a lot of you have heard of the Baja 1000, which takes place in Mexico.

There are a couple of different formats that are used. There is the short course, which CORR (Wisconsin primarily) is known for. Out here in CA, it's either point to point or several long (40-70 miles) laps out in the desert.

With VORRA, the season starts off on a short course track (8 laps) and then moves off into the desert outside Reno for three races, then finishes the season up on the short course.

Survival is the key. The last VORRA race, 53% of the entries finished; so a lot of times it's a just a matter of keeping a steady pace and playing it safe and let the "hammer down" folks run hard and let them break their junk.

Here are a couple of pics so far from the VORRA season. I focus my duties on just writing, so only two pictures are my own, the others came from other people.

Bubba, we have a 5kb limit on photos, thanks.
