Contact your local, county and state agencies and ask them. There's patrol officers, dispatch, and support personal. By contacting the departments near you they can inform you of entry postions they have in their departments and what the requirements are.

This might be something you already now, but some don't. Everyone starts out in patrol pushing a car. I have met people that have no experience and want to be a homocide detective the first day on the job. It won't happen. If "fields" means assignments, check the departments website. They are basically the same everywhere.
