  • Condiments....oooh saucy!

Gotta say that lunch time in our house bought up the topic of condiments (yeah, i know..but it was at least communication ) and i need your views on the following:

    1.Why Ketchup and mustard together?
2.Mayonaise on fries? cool or uncool?

Also, whats the condiment you cannot live without and tend to smother on all your meals.

Hi there. I dont use condiments anymore, gave them up!

Ketchup is sweet and mustard is hot/bitter so they go together like sweet and sour.

Mayonaise isnt really put on fries here but had it in Amsterdam and it was fine. Not sure its the best idea though - would be just as well spreading butter over your fries!!

Lots of people put ketchup and mustard on burgers, i like ketchup and mayo on them. i'm not crazy about mustard. i do like it with ketchup on hotdogs, but i havent had a hotdog in about two years.

My ex-husband put mayo on fries, he started it when he was stationed in Germany. to me it was YUK. he also put butter on steak...and ended up with heart problems...but thats another story lol [Wink]

I guess the one i cant live without would be mayo. i dont use alot, but i do need some for stuff like tuna and chicken salad.

I don't like mayo. Never have, never will. I'm a Kraft Miracle Whip person. And I like Ketchup and Mustard on my Kosher hot dogs, hamburgers and such. Now, mayo on fries....couple of my friends do that, but I think EEEWWW.

Isn't Miracle Whip the same thing as Mayo? I know it says it's a "salad dressing" or something but I have always thought it might as well be mayo because I can't tell the difference.

Mayo on fries sounds disgusting, but I had friends that eat Red Robin's steak fries with Ranch. Lotsa people like that. I like mustard and relish on a big ol' dog, and mustard and ketchup and pickles on a burger.

Proper Mayonnaise is nothing like Miracle Whip but the Belgians like it on Fries and it is nice but it needs to be proper stuff not whipped crap that disolves rather than melts.
My most commonly used item is Worcestershire (Wusstersheer) sauce, its great with scrambled eggs and sausages and useful for stews and sauces that need some kick.

                    1. No clue. Katsup/ketchup is a sweet, slightly salty, rather uninteresting condiment to me. I much prefer a strong "steak sauce". Good mustard adds flavour and complexity, complementing whatever you're putting it on. I prefer the Grey Poupon "deli style".

2.Mayonnaise on fries is OK, but miracle whip is horrid, no matter what you use it for. I actually prefer salad creme, when I can get it, to mayo.

I tend to use a quite strong chile-garlic sauce on most of my foods (great in eggs!). It looks just like salsa, but isn't. Big fun with guests... "here, try some of this..." A little goes a looooooooooong way.

Mayo is great on burgers, hot dogs, sandwiches, but not on Fries. Gimme ketchup all the way.

Favorite condiment? Depends on what I'm eating.

As for Miracle Whip...not the same as good old Best Foods or Kraft Mayo.

The only condiment I can confess to missing is HP Sauce from the UK. A spicy, thick brown sauce that is brilliant on eggs, cheese and about everything else!!

I brought a huge bottle back with me last time I was home and got through it in two weeks. Thats the last time I had a condiment. What a strange word....... condiment.....ah well.

ketchup and mustard hot dogs...Salsa or sour cream or green chili dip (if I am in Albuquerque) on my baked potatoes. I go through phases..I have never had mayo on my fries.

How about Peanut butter on your cheeseburger? I didn't do this one, brother did for years growing up.
And ever dip your pretzels in sourcream?
                            yummayyyy
