  • Houston, we have a problem!

We might be moving to Houston this summer. We have lived there before and my family lives there.....to keep updated with news , I visit www.click2houston.com
I visited today and found carjacking stories, men on fire in the area we would probably live...and...gee.....a story that turned my stomach.....
    http://www.click2houston.com/news/2259554/detail.html
check it out..if the link works...I am a dope at this stuff.
I have lived there before many years ago, but being over here in low crimeville for a few years has made me a softie.....what do I do in a carjacking situation....I normally would just let the creep have the car, but now I have a baby in a car seat.....I dont pack any heat (hee....)..what would I do....ask the loser if I can get my baby first before he takes the car...gee, it is only an idea as far as the move goes, but I am already worrying about crime in Houston...geez....Silly Rabbit.

Pack heat, either shoot the guy or run over him with the car.

I'd recommend you find some real statistics. You know how the media is...

Remember that big kidnapping scare we were having across the nation? It seemed babies were being snatched left and right! Turns out the kidnapping rates were falling nation wide during the same time period.

Anywho, point being, the news is in business to scare you, so check out Houston P.D's website, they probably have some statistics on there.

Barring that, get a gun (just remember the odds are that you're more likely to use it on a family member than a criminal)!

Often times that family member in those stats IS a criminal and needs shooting.

          Haha, quite true, Bill.

Eeeeeeh! I hadn't thought of that.

I live (or rather lived) in Houston for the better part of 17 years of my life. I can assure you this is just the media blowing things way out of proportion. This stuff is not the norm. We are actually quite sane down here in good 'ole Texas.

By the by, any Yankees suckers....err I mean fans out there see the Astros game tonight??

Nice reply n567, know what you mean

and since car manufacturers have FINALLY got their act together on car security LONDON is seeing way less hot wiring, almost zero, instead we have
              1) car jackings across LONDON sky high
              and 2) letter box burglaries
don't laugh, but a massive trend in "new" burglaries, the burglars first look through a letter box slot in the front door of a house, they see through to the victim's hallway, IN MANY CASES there are they car keys slung on the floor

I guess I have just been in Boise too long where the most excitement our officers have up here are runaway trains and the occassional murder or break-in. It is actually pretty nice to live in a place where a murder does not happen everyday....I have grown soft. I do miss home and will gladly move back to Texas in a heartbeat.
I lived their long enough to know what area of town to avoid and have a big brother there who will gladly teach me how to use a gun. Mr. Bunny was surprised the other day when I asked him to teach me how to do that and said he was not sure if I could. I have itty bitty wrists ; I dont know if he was being silly because he says I have little wrists like a doll. Does that matter?

Bunny, got your message & it's good that you already know what you are going back to. That area has really grown in the past 10 years & you may be surprised some. Good luck with the move & don't forget the fans.
