Man, I watched a couple of episodes of COPS yesterday, all of them from the first season.

I could not believe how things were, even just 15 years ago.

Here are just a few of the things that blew my mind while watching:

Officers(more than one) having their guns drawn and their fingers on the triggers. I found this just crazy.

    Cuffing suspects in the front.

One guy, they had him arrested(they told him he was under arrest) and they didn't cuff him at all.

I LOVED THIS ONE. A cop chasing a guy and yells to the suspect "Stop or I will shoot you in the back" ROFL

    Man, how times have changed.

Many years ago I watched an episode where the cops roll up on a burglary in progress at a residence. the bad guy is coming out the window with a tv. the cops tell him to freeze and of course he takes off running with the tv. Now the best part of the whole thing is that the officer starts chasing the crook who is out running the cops while carrying the tv. then the camera man passes the cop and then stops and turns around to show the poor officer bent over with his hands on his knees. I was amazed that they showed this on tv. That was many, many years ago.
Arguing with a Cop is like mud wrestling with a pig. Eventually you will realize that the Pig likes it.

i usually watch the 2 episodes on fox around 2pm est, and the two or so episodes that come on fx around 230-300pm est...
then of course court tv's 7pm-9pm episodes lol...
I am assuming you are speaking of the episodes shown on court tv last night? very entertaining, not to mention tuesday nights 2 hours were packed with a bunch of taser scenes.

Yeah, it was the ones in Florida they showed last night on Court TV with their new 7 to 9 thing they have going.

And, I watched Tuesdays too. The one with those Samoens or Tongans, whatever they were. The whole family getting tazed. LOL Funny as crap.

Me and my brother refer to the big guy who came in to try to help his brother and got tazed as Big Tito

I like the episode where the plainclothes guy holds a gun to the suspects head while he cuffs him. What a Maroon!

Did you guys see the one last week on Sat. where the Officer was in a foot pursuit after a traffic stop and the guy hopped a fence and ran another direction, and the cop tazed him. It ended the pursuit right then and there.

That's why I can't watch COPS, it's frustrating to see the things they do "different" than my training and experience has taught me. It makes my blood pressure go up more than the actual job does.

My favorite episodes are the ones from Philadelphia and Boston in the late 80's/early 90's.

I saw a show on (I think) VH1 where they were asking producers and camera guys their favorite moments, and the one guy came up with a Philly scene. It was and remains my favorite of all time.

Two Highway cops go into a closed barbershop (night, summertime) for a burglary or disturbance, and in back room or upstairs shots ring out. Cops are ducking, cameraman starts backing away, and out comes this big, naked, black guy trying to get out. He's so sweaty they can't get a good grip on him, finally tackle him at doorway. Forget all the other details, but seem to recall he was the shooter, and like a kite on something. (Duh!)

Gave me a certain perverse sense of pride - like all the REALLY goofy stuff happens here.

I also enjoy the show and have for years. But I have yet to meet anyone in law enforcement who will publicly admit to liking the show-most just roll their eyes and groan....

I liked those too.......I'm not sure if it was Philly or maybe Pittsburgh, but there were several episodes with a big bald cop with a walrus mustache. That guy could po-lice. I woulda ridden with him anytime.

                            Pittsburgh.

He was crazy. The Calibre Press book "Street Survival" has a picture of him standing over a suspect he had just smoked, still holding his revolver. Whoever chose that guy to ride with COPS had a sense of humor.

My favorites are still the ones in Pierce County, Washington. Is that entire damn state on crystal meth????

Hahahahahaha, you're always picking on those of us from Pierce County.................and with GOOD reason.

I gotta say, most of the episodes were from Lakewood...not the nicest place in Pierce County. I did a couple ride-alongs in Lakewood...it is just as wild and crazy as a COPS episode, not exaggerating.

You're right though, the Pierce County episodes have a very high entertainment factor. I especially like seeing deputies/Lakewood PD officers that I recognize.

There are some old episodes with Sheriff John Bunnell when he still worked for Multnomah County Oregon. Those were great. You'll probably recognize him from World's Wildest Police Videos and World's Craziest Police Chases. It was funny to actually see him out on the streets working in drug stings and the like. Probably won him some votes.
