  • Best Friends

How many of you have one? Do you have more than one? If you do have one, is your bestie a m/f? Do you confide your deepest, darkest secrets to your bestie? Would you trust your best friend with your life?

I have many friends and a lot of acquaintances. For that, I feel especially blessed. Pam, who is my very bestest friend that I grew up with, knows me better than I know myself. We met when she was 9 and I was 10. She's been my best friend for 30 years.

I also have made some very good friends at work, and very good friends here on the forum. Wouldn't want to trade any of ya's in for anything at all.

Had a best friend, got into a fight with him on my wedding day! ( He took off with the ring because he saw a car that he had a hit in run with, the day before,at the weddding. Come to find out the car he hit was my sister-in-law's car)
The kid only ended up getting me in trouble and borrowing money from me.
I guess my best friend is my wife. Followed by the voices in my head.

I moved around a lot growing up thanks to the United States Army, I made a lot of friends but had a hard time staying in contact.

I had a few good friends in highschool, sorority sisters I still talk to, (AOII) and a few close friends I have now. I have a couple of girlfriends, but mostly male friends. I seem to get along better with men. Always have. Go figure.

I sure loves ya Katey sista. Yer a rare exception. [Wink]

My best friend was always my H until we divorced. Have never found a replacement for him. Not even close. I find it very hard to trust most people. And without trust, you can only get so close.

I envy you, Katey. Having a close friend is priceless.

ahhh.... Had a best friend.. took me ten bucks to get rid of her. now, I have a GREAT friend, who I consider my best friend, but its sorta unspoken because he's male.. and you know how that goes... men and women cant just be friends.. so I say we just get along well and talk about lots of stuff. LOTS in common.
Oh... Oh... I know you di-int!

I have two (a male and a female) and I tend to confide in him much more than my female friend. I think that is because I have grown up around males my whole life (and being a tomboy ) and feel more at ease around them. I don't feel like I am going to be judged and I don't feel like I have to be in competition with them.

I enjoy both of them they as they have helped me through rough times and are always there for me unconditionally and for me that is most important!

My best friend is my wife. Has been for six years now.

My best MALE friend is the same one since eighth grade...about ten years now. Unfortunately, he's still doing the drugs is fun makes being around him rather difficult. Actually, I can't be around him...

Damn I miss him. Drugs suck. [Frown]

One thing I can say with my best friend, Pam, is that there has ALWAYS been total honesty between us. We both tell it like it is, even if it's something the other doesn't want to hear. It doesn't mean we don't care - in fact, I believe it shows just how much we mean to each other. I value her friendship tremendously. She's as close as one can get to being blood without being actual relatives.

I do have a male best friend and I know he reads these forums from time to time. He lives too far from me to actually hang out, but that doesn't mean the friendship lacks anything. He's a class act, and I also value his frienship a great deal.

I have 3 best friends, my husband,my best friend since high school, Lynda and my cousin, Debbie.
I can go to either of them with anything but I will say Lynda and Debbie are the most understanding of the threr.
I have known my husband since we were both 15, we were married at age 20 and have now been married 32 years. Al doesn't always understand me but he will go out of his way to help me. He knows the drive to get my son to work and back is really hard for me. He told me that there was no T-Ball umpiring this year and I just found out there was...He told me that so he could pick David up. He knew I wouldn't let him give up umpiring just for that drive I hate.
We can both be hard to get a long with but we both love each other very much.
Lynda is my sons godmother. I was there for her through her devastating divorce after 27 years of mariahe and her sons brain tumor. She was there for me when our son got a brian tumor, his divorce and my husband's job loss. It's like she always knew when to call when I was at my worst. I took my sons divorce very very hard and couldn't understand it. She pointed out that his wife had been the daughter I had always wanted then she was was like a death to me. It helped me a lot to understand why I missed someone who hurt my son so badly. But, I don't miss her anymore.
Debbie came to live with us when she was 5, after her Mother died. I learned last night, from her, she has very little time to live because of cancer that has returned.. I cried and cried and she never did, not one time. She just kept consoling me. She says I'll never be rid of her, that she will be the angel sitting on my shoulder, laughing at all the funny things that happen to me, just like she always does.
How I am going to miss her.
I have been blessed...Now I have to go cry again. lol

I once had a best friend. Met her in middle school and been best friends till after graduation of high school and two more years after that...until she met a guy with drug problems. She left me to move to Jersey state to live with him...and I thought, the 10 year friendship we had was for that one druggie? She was the only person I confided in with everything.

Then I realized that my mother is my only true best friend. She wouldn't me for anytyhing in the world. And I think my mother and I've been best friends since I was born.

My Misses is my best friend.
I have a few very close male and female friends, but none compare to my wife.
Oddly enough, I have always related very well to women, I have been cursed with the "big brother" complex. It aint so bad, really. Girls sure do smell and look better than guys.

I have best friends of both sexes, people that I have known for many years. They are like my sisters and brothers. I can be "ME" around them without worrying about being goofy. You can trust thenm with anything because you know they will never do anything to hurt you.

There is a big difference between best friends and friends though. You don't share at the same level initially because trust is a hard thing to establish. I have been shocked sometimes when I hear things that people have said or done that CLAIM to be my friend. I usually compensate though for things like jealousy and greed and rumours and instead think on what they have said or done with pity. They won't ever reach the best friend status but I don't give up on their ability to one day know enough to regret their actions and therefore become a better friend.

I think as you get older you realize the true value of a best friend. They are priceless!

No best friends- I switched schools constantly when I was younger and pretty much gave up on the idea of even long term friends.

I've always been better friends with guys. Helps having only brothers... But it gets messy when guy friends want to be *more* than friends. Ruins everything. Unless they're cute.
Don't take life too seriously- you'll never come out of it alive.

Never mind a "best" friend, after being burned a few times by people I thought were friends, I have a high standard when it comes to friendship. I have a lot of good people in my life. Maybe after another 10 years a deeper level of friendship will develop with some of them while others will remain simply people with whom I play tennis, or share a common interest. Then there are others who are not friends but for whom I have great liking and respect.

My husband is my best friend. We've been together 23 years (since I was 19), and I really don't think we reached the deeper level of friendship until we'd been together 15 years. I consider my sister a friend, and perhaps 3 or 4 other people, but that's about it!
