    Carolina Beach, North Carolina

Took my wife to this neat place there last spring for our fist anniversary. It's called "Darlings by the Sea" (named after the owners) and is pretty much right on the beach. They have their own website: http://www.darlingsbythesea.com/

I can say it is worth the $150 - $200/night for the plush, private suite. It has leather furniture, down pillows and comforter, marble entryway and part of the floor, private deck looking out to the ocean, huge whirlpool bathtub, deluxe continental breakfast, etc. Check out their website. I guarantee if you take your wife there, you'll have a renewed lease on your marriage for at least a year .

Have fun and let us know where you decide to go,

    Brandon

It sounds like you are wanting something more... "Chicky" than a bunch of thrill rides.

IMHO, while I like Pigeon Forge/Gatlinburg, the downtown areas are not the "Chicky" places, its the Hot Tubs in the mountain cabin hideaways. I've never had or seen anything like "Blues" did and I've been to Gat/PF many times. Pig.Forge. has been associated quite a bit as "The Myrtle Beach of the Smokey's" due to the Commercialised Strip on the main drag. Gatlinburg has quite a different feel to it. Both, however, are not an easy plane ride away from MD.

If you decide on the Gatlinburg area, this is a fantastic B&B that my wife and I stayed at for 2 nights a few years ago. Each room has its own Bathroom, gas fireplace and a sliding door that opens onto a huge porch that gives you a fantastic view of the mountain tops. Serenity at its finest. You'll have to find your own lunch and dinner, though: http://tours.makingitsimple.net/hippensteal/rooms1.htm

All things considered, you are talking about 2 travel days aside a single day on target, and you are looking to stay close to an airport. I don't know many places that can fit that bill. Even the Charleston Airport is 20 minutes away from downtown, but once you get downtown, most everything is within walking distance, aside from our big military museum, Partriots Point, which is across the river.

There are a couple of "well appointed" motels down there as well, one of them is "The Indigo Inn" http://www.indigoinn.com/rates.htm which is part of a group of old homes turned into hotels, see the other links on that page.

http://www.charminginns.com/ also links to many an old hotel.

As for our most modern and largest one in the city, we have "The Charleston Place" http://www.charlestonplace.com/web/o...a1a_splash.jsp which is pretty upscale and a bit pricey for my league, but might be just what the lady wants if you have it to spend on her. I think that they may have an airport shuttle, but could be wrong about that

IMHO, you might not want to take her to Vegas if your head is going to be on a swivel (or hers) and she wants you to treat her like she is important to you.

    Another Vacation question

I want to take the wife away for her birthday on Sept. 1st....I wanna leave that am( thurs.) and return Sat. sometime.

We are in maryland so the furthest west I'll go is Vegas as i don't wanna waste time flying far away.

Any thoughts or ideas???? If you have a areathen hit me with a hotel also. I prefer a city environment as to not have to cab it alot.

I have thought of Orleans, and Vegas already but need other ideas. Chicago and the Beau Riavage Hotel in Biloxi,Miss. have been tossed at me as well so far..

    Help and thanx

PS.....not looking for super exspensive but nothing cheap also. I would rather spend the money in town then on the hotel and flight

    PSS....If i don't think of something good..i think she's gonna leave me
