It was worth it.
If something were to happen at least there would be a record of the plate thus a nice step towards solving an investigation.
Never Know they may have dispatched an officer to the gun club to just hang out for a few as a deterrant. Maby the guy (if he was a BG) saw the officer and went about his mary way.
