  • So, what do you think of the Harry potter bruhaha

Are people scared for nothing over the witchcraft angle? Or, are they foolish ignoramouses? I haven't seen the movie or read the books, but I do have an opinion on it. I'll tell you later on in the broadcast!

    What do you think?

It's silly. My little 9 year old neighbor said it best. She said, "Can't they tell it's just make believe?" I guess they can't! lol

Frankly, it's the people who are scared of the "Witchcraft angle" that worry me.

What kind of oppressive society would they have us live in?

        Bunch of close- minded fanatics.

I liked Harry's grandpa, Sherman, a whole lot more.

I think the books are awesome, my 10 year old loves them. Anything that makes kids read is good in my opinion.

BTW, just got back from the movie...yes my daughter talked me into going opening night...and it was wonderful. A definate must see.

The Withcraft angle is real, very real indeed. If you want your children to beleive that withcraft and demonology is harmless and cute and normal, then by all means let your children read the books.

It is a very subtle introduction of witchcraft and black arts and by the comments here, it appears to be working.

By the way, I have read many parts of the book. I find it curious that many make comments and decisions based on something they have not taken the time to read.

Having dealt with it in a proffesional capacity, frankly it's the ones that are'nt scared of it that worry me. They ethier dont know about it, or they know exactly about it.

Well, after dealing with murder as a result of it, blood sacrafices and all the "hooplah" associated with witchcraft, along with people that have been victims and are scared to death of it, you might have to call me a "close minded fanatic".

By your own admission, you haven't taken time to read it, only PARTS of it.

Nobody said witchcraft wasn't real. What I personally was saying is that this is a big bunch of noise over nothing. Big deal, it has witchcraft in it. So did Bewitched 30 freaking years ago and I haven't seen much harm come from that show. Hell, remember the witches in MacBeth???????

Witches have been around in literature and film as long as the mediums have existed (no pun intended). I think a line from the movie Off Limits sums it up well: It's like being in a boat in a sea full of sh*t and picking up a t*rd and saying "This t*rd pizzes me off". With all the stuff wrong in the world, I really don't think the Harry Potter movie is going to alter the course of too many lives.

My ten year is a fanatic also. He wants to not be theonly kid in the 5th grade that has not seen it. His exact words. I think he is a wonderful child and i love messing with his mind. He lost his tooth in the bathroom sink for the second time because he thinks its cool to watch himself in the mirror while pulling it out. Well anyways, He's carring on about how he won't have enough money to go see Harry Potter because his tooth fell down the drain. I told him if you leave a note for the tooth fairy, she will use her magic to get it out of the drain and leave the money under your pillow.

Well i thought i would share the note, It made me laugh.

Dear tooth fairy, I was pulling my tooth out and it felled down the hole in the sink. (he has a bit of a speech problem) I am the same kid who wrote you the note last time when it happened before. Do you remember me? If you could please use some magic and get it out please. I sleep on the top bunk bed. And i have brown hair. If you see my brother he has yellow hair and don't give him the money on accident. He will keep it. I really want to see harry potter the movie and if i have enough left i want to get a new book too. My mom says that if the tooth has silver on it i cant get alot of money because i did not take very good care of my teeth. So i was trying to brush it so it would be clean. And it only had a little bit of silver on it.
Thank you tooth fairy and its in the hole in the bathroom sink i even lifted the silver part in the sink so you could see it better. from Chris C.

I loved reading his note. Its one that makes you smile. I really love the way he tried to get her to leave him extra money like she was santa. And yes he did pry open the silver drain guard trying to get the tooth. Kids, Gotta love em.

Maybe ,maybe not. With all of the advertising and playtoys that are supporting this, its a shame that the kids couldnt have a better role model than a kid that grows up to be a wizard and uses spells on people.

                          "Just one without witchcraft"

Oh? Now we're going to start prohibiting the practices of certain religions?

"Well, after dealing with murder as a result of it, blood sacrafices and all the "hooplah" associated with witchcraft,"

Perhaps you'd like to take a guess at how many people a year are murdered in the US in connection with witchcraft.

When you arrive at a number, compare it to the number killed in connection with drugs, DUI or robbery. Now tell me where my priorities should lie? Stopping murderous drug dealers? Catching drunk drivers? Catching armed robbers? Or worrying about the Harry Potter movie?

Role-model? Cripes! I wached Star Wars as a kid and had light saber fights with my brother........didn't make Luke Skywalker my role model. And I'm certain there were more Star Wars toys in a single year than Harry Potter will EVER sell.

This is completely ridiculous. I cannot believe how much influence we give to movies and books...if you are doing your job as a parent, then your children SHOULD know that this is only make-believe.

Our society is quick to blame television and movie violence for the increasing violence in our youth, yet most will not hesitate to stick them in front of the TV unsupervised for hours on end.
