I wanted to share this story with our group. I think when we see an officer really do a good job, not saving the world good, but a routine really good job we should celebrate it.
My wife and I were recently in Houston for a mini vacation, went to see Minute Maid park (BTW a wonderful experience) and see Roger Clemens pitch. While there we went to eat at a Jason's Deli which was close to our hotel. When we went in I saw a Houston officer, who was meeting his wife and three daughters, to eat with him. Also in the restraunt was a mother with a three to four year old girl who was being, without a doubt the biggest brat, screaming, carrying on, and generally making life miserable for her mother and others who were contemplating finding another place to eat. This officer was able to calm the child, get her to sit down, wait for the meal to come, get her to chose her drink, and in just a few minutes change a situation from being very annoying to a pleasant experience.
As we left the deli, I introduced myself as a reserve officer and commended him for a very nice job. I think his name was Justin, but I want everyone to know he was a real credit to the badge, and to his department.
If there are any Houston officers who would like to pass this on up the ladder (I thought about calling someone but left town the next day without time to do so) please feel free to PM me with a number to call.
So much of the time all of us does something just as commendable or even moreso and we don't get credit or even pat ourselves on the back for the things we do. I think it's so important for us to celebrate even the small victories.
My hat is off all the Houston officers and all of brothers and sisters around this country and planet who every day strive to make this a better place to live.
