  • Saw two good movies this weekend...

    The Emperor's Club
After seeing the previews for this movie, I was convinced it was a cheap remake of the classic Dead Poet's Society. While it shared a lot of the characteristics of DP'S, the angle was slanted a bit. Though the strife is a moral one, the ending isn't as cliched as you would think. Kevin Kline was wonderful as always and this sort of role really suits him.

    Far from Heaven
This film was arguably one of the best films of the year. I was so moved and touched by this intriguing tale of a classic Leave it to Beaver type family when unexpected events tear it apart. Dennis Quaid and Julianne Moore were at the top of their game as was Dennis Haysbert whom I have not seen much of prior. The cinematography was superb, the scenes rich in visual aspects however they did not overshadow the storyline which was beautiful in itself. This is a kind of movie that challenges us in our beliefs, our morals and makes us reach deep into ourselves to see what it is that we do to keep up appearance's sake or to go with the flow. I really do think this movie will take it in March at the Academy Awards.

I saw a couple on Friday. Friday After Next and Die Another Day.

Friday was funny but not as funny as I hoped. Mike Epps was hilarious and the mini-pimp character "Money Mike" had me laughing until my head started to hurt. Good matinee movie if you get the matinee price.

Bond was great. Typically cool and lots of good gadgets. Some of the people here don't like Halle Berry but I think she played a good part. It didn't hurt that she's a nice piece of scenery too.

Rachel, I must be out of the loop. Never heard of either of your movies.

hehehe, see, those are the movies I hate! I've never seen a Bond movie and really don't intend to. Pierce is nice eyecandy and all, but they aren't really my genre.

Then that gives you the reason to buy the news sets there selling soon. Connery was the best though. I grew up with Roger Moore so when I think of Bond I think of him.

Don't worry, Raych, I'll sit you down for a Brosnan marathon: Goldeneye, Tomorrow Never Dies, The World Is Not Enough, and Die Another Day when it's on DVD.
