Anyone Tried the Atkins Diet?

    Here's a good one for chicken lovers.....I lost 10 lbs in 3 weeks before my wedding. My brother lost almost 40 lbs in 3 months.
    Goal is to eat less then 20 grams of fat per day.
    First thing when you wake up, drink 32 oz of water VERY FAST. It's going to "clean you out" if you know what I mean, (I know this is gross, but the poopies).
    Breakfast: Anytype of cereal, fatfree milk
    Lunch: I made grilled chicken sandwiches everyday, sprinkle a little lemon pepper salt while cooking and you're good to go. You can also do low fat sandwich meats. No mayo, only mustard or spicy mustard
    Dinner: a Lean Cuisine meal or something like it. Also slices of turkey. Fat free pudding (really tastes like the real thing)
    It really works
    AND DON'T FORGET TO EXERSIZE!!!!!!
    Although I'm 1/2 Japanese, my American side says there is another word for sushi; BAIT.

      Works for me...5 weeks on it and I'm down 30 pounds. I can beat MOST of the cravings. Sugar-free Reese's Cups were sent by GOD! [Eek!] They are carb free (at least "impact carbs.") They help TREMEDOUSLY!

      I treated myself to Chinese last friday (along with the crab legs, which are okay on Atkins... [Wink] ) and didn't gain any weight back from one meal.

      My wife, who only wants to lose about 15 pounds lasted 3 days on Atkins...it just wasn't for her.

      The most important thing to me is it's showing me I CAN live without the excess of carbohydrates and sweets, and it's giving me the rapid weight loss I needed to see to stay "motivated". I'm just now getting to the point that I can see it, and others can. It's so nice to run into someone I haven't seen in a couple of months and the first thing they say is "You've lost weight!"

      I have SO much more energy now it's not even a comparison, even though I have much farther to go. The BP coming down might have as much to do with that as the weight loss, but I'm not arguing! Neither is my wife-I've worked almost non-stop in the yard and in the garden, and still have enough energy left (most days anyway) to clean house in the evenings. And believe me, the garden is EXERCISE!! Especially in the heat we've had lately.

      All this makes her very happy also, which ultimately leads to MORE aerobic activity... [Wink] [Wink]

        Yeah, well, imagine all that extra energy... and no way to burn it!! [Eek!] [Wink]

        The Atkins is working great for me, too. 28 pounds so far, and i FEEL great, AND i eat great food. there are lots of good, low carb chocolates. people at work cant believe they're sugar-free.

        I love the Atkins Crunchers chips... i made the best chicken nachos the other nite, with almost NO carbs. i cant wait to make some beef or seafood ones.

          I was on it for a little while and lost about 20 lbs. After that, i just couldn't stand not eating the carbs. After getting off of it I continued losing another 65lbs. or so through a lower-calorie diet and lots of exercise.

          I recently read a diet book called "Eat, Drink, and be Healthy." It's written by the Harvard Medical School. IMO, it is an EXCELLENT diet book that has suggestions backed with clinical research. It is similar to Atkins in that the food pyramid has basically been turned upside down, however it stresses things such as lean meats, whole grains, fruits, etc. The main prohibition is on simple carbs such as enriched flour and sugars. It even encourages daily alcohol consumption .There are also some GREAT recipes in the book as well.

            I have done the Atkins a couple of times and I did lose weight but I miss toast or cereal for breakfast and after I only just made it home in time last time [Eek!] !!!! I have given up on it but my wife likes it.
            My Mother and two sisters have joined Slimmers World and they love it and are doing really well, 30 lbs between them in the first month.It basically seems to alternate low carb days with normal days, theres a whole list of foods you can and cant eat depending on the day but they are never hungry, get plenty of choice and it works for them

              Last year I started the Atkins diet and lost 65 pounds in 4 months. Yes their are side effects at first but they pass after 2-3 weeks. It is quite hard for me to loose weight with the methotrexate and prednisone and vioxx I take for rh. arthritis but Atkins did it. I am back to my college football weight(30 years ago).
              I have recently switched to the South Beach Diet by Dr. Arthur Agatston. It is resembles Atkins but allows for foods that Atkins does not.
