A Simple Question

While browsing this "funny" forum I do ask myself one simple question. Why do many of you here need to justify themselfes by offending someone else, especially when they are from foreign countries? In my opinion, if you make a decision and think it's right, you can tell others if they agree or not, but if not, you're still confident in your opinion without the need to offend your "opponent". The need to justify for your opinion only arises if you are NOT confident with it, or if you cannot stand your opinion anymore, but are not willing to admit it.

I understand common antipathy with specific foreign countries if it is not racism. Everyone like other countries the more or the less, but what I do read about the french here in topics, is "a little bit" more than just the usual dislike.

This topic is not ment as an offence to anyone, it's just a question that I do ask myself when I do read this. Hopefully someone of you will give me an anwser that's more than just a one liner with some rubbish explanation like "Because we are" or something like that.

I know you dont want a simple answer, but here goes..it is simple human nature. Putting others down in the way we do in here is really not technically a form of self-justification; we dont need to boost our self -esteem in any way by making jest about others...it is just what some people do.
I am not big on making jokes or discussing religion, race, etc.., but I know others are and that does not mean they are bad or racist; they just have a different sense of humor or interests than I. I rarely laugh at jokes which poke fun at others, but sometimes I just cant help and that does not mean I am bad...only human. I rarely take part in discussing current events or politics because that is my nature. We are all good people in here and making fun of others in this manner is not a form of bullying, it is just what people do.
Sorry, but that is all i can tell you; I am sure others will have more to say. Certainly, in a different manner, as well.

well to be honest, this was not an answer like i expected it, but nevertheless it's a very good answer. i never thought of that so far, i must have missed something out in my thinking, but well, using your words, i am only human, too

I am eager, as well.
I am one of those Sociology/Psychology nerds and look at everything in a behavioral sense; my poor child will be analyzed quite a bit, I guess. I do think about things a bit too much sometimes. As far as you not thinking it through; yes that is human nature and sometimes we need gentle reminders or another source to see things in a different way.

Some answers may not be worded like mine, but take the opportunity to learn from them, think before you respond. Listen to me, I sound like a mom!

One issue is an outlet for venting frustrations. In the case of this forum for example, one could vent about their job,their family, their spouse or any number of problems they are having and blame it all on France.

Some people seem to enjoy insulting others or getting in the last word in a discussion regardless of how ridiculous they sound.

Others simply are not good at putting their opinions in words so what they come up with doesn't sound like what they were trying to say.

And there are those who feel angry and hurt by another person's remarks and feel the need to let the other person know what they think of them.

There are probably lots of other reasons. If I offend someone it would probably be caused by #2.

Might as well.... Canada does have the largest French population that never surrendered to Germany !! But, I could have sworn that I've seen "we surrender" signs in Quebec City during WW2 in old news footage !!
