Good movie. I really enjoyed it. Its about Stonewall Jackson and his brigade. It made one feel kinda sorry for the poor Yanks that got slaughtered mostly by inept leadership. It was 3 and half hours long. If you happen to be a civil war buff, this is one to see.

In the beggining of the movie it showed many battle flags of units participating at Cold Harbot and Fredericksburg. I thought it interesting to see the 3rd Arkansas Calvary flag in it. Not a half mile from my house is an old cemetery with some of the 3rd. Ark buried there.

If you liked "Gettysburg" this is a must see.

I'm going to see it tonight. I hope it is as close to the book as Gettysburg was to The Killer Angels.

The critics didn't like it-that means it should be an excellent movie.

I'm going to see it hopefully.

I was going to see Dark Blue, but after hearing so many cops say this-I won't.

On the other hand, I WAS NOT going to see Old School becuase I thought it would be too crude and juvenile, but most of the critics liked this one, and said that it actually uses new material, and not a lot of old stereotypes.

STILL WAITING for Tears Of The Sun.

            My thoughts exactly.

One of the things that the pinko communist liberal critics didnt like that it was shown from a southern point of view. It also showed that slavery wasnt even an issue till the feds got thier tails shot off badly enough that they needed all the help that they could get and hoped that offering freedom might give them an incentive to fight. You KNOW that aint PC. It also showed the deeply religious side of JAckson and how he often prayed with his men. That dang sure aint PC.

How do you figure the individuals that were slaughtered won?

I want to see it but I think I will wait until the video comes out. Three hours is too long to sit in a dark theater.

I definitely want to see it because it takes place so close to home. Not where it was filmed, but where it actually took place. But I'm with Snoopy1: think I'll wait for the video.

It was a good strategy! Grant fully knew he could win the war, and lose 2 soldiers for every Confederate soldiers.

Well, the Russians made a similar price beating back the Nazis. Though in this case, I can't rightly say either the North or South were exactly "good."

I just got home from seeing it. I enjoyed it very much, but it didn't follow the book as close as it should have. It was heavily dominated by Stonewall Jackson. I love Stonewall, but they totally ignored all of the other central characters.

A friend told me that the original version of the movie was five hours long and was cut down to the three hour and 46 minute version. Maybe the DVD will have all of the other characters.

                        What a great movie!

I had my doubts when I saw the Ted Turner logo on the opening credits. So I had my antenna up for revisionist history. The only thing I really noticed was like Watchman points out below; they made it sound like the Southerners treated their slaves like they were just part of the family.

How far we've come since then and not all of it has been progress in the right direction. Makes the 'ranger want to hop up on his bay charger and ride off into the sunset.

After a day or so of reflection, I appreciate the movie much more than I did when actually watching it. I still think that it could have been done better, but I still like it.

I watched the History Channel "History vs. Hollywood" special on it. Overall, they gave the movie high marks for its relative accuracy.

I still have mixed feelings about putting money into his pockets.
