  • Digital camera probs....

I've had a Polaroid PDC 640 for a little over a year now. It takes GREAT pics, but....

When my wife was getting it out last week for graduation pics, it REFUSED to focus. EVERYTHING displayed on the viewscreen was/is out of focus...BADLY. Yep...tried brand new Lithium batteries. No go. It has never been dropped and has been stored in a foam padded hard case. It has received ZERO bumps, jars or impacts. Ideas?

Accidently set to manual focus? RTFM

Too close to the text subject? Doubtful...

    Sand in the mechanism?

Did you press the button haqlfway down and wait for the light to tell you it was in focus before snapping the focus?

Were you trying to focus something beyond glass? Possible the camera was focusing on something other than the subject...

Was it focus or motion blur? Did the flash go off? Will it tell you the shutter speed? Sometimes the two are hard to tell apart...

I wish I were more familiar with the camera, but those are the things that leap out at first.

When I first got the camera, I could turn it on and look through the view finder and see a clear subject. Now, I can't see anything but fuzz. Photos taken are just as fuzzy. The camera hasn't been to the beach, dropped, or exposed to extreme temperatures. It's been in the house since I got it. I've tried motion pictures, close up, 10' and distance, posed pictures, etc. Nothing works.

I hate to be simplistic, but have you tried cleaning the lens and any sensors on the front of the camera?

Can you hear the mechanism trying to focus? If yes, refer to above. If no, then it may hav ejust gone bad on you.

I'm not familiar with that particular camera, but CopinNY may be.

What you have is an operator problem, not a Polaroid problem. Polaroid makes the best cameras in the world. NASA is even using a stock Polaroid Spectra to take pictures of the rings of Saturn. if it works for NASA obviously your problem is a case of operator error!

Did the people you were trying to take pictures of watch the same video lately? Were their bodies o.k, but faces fuzzy? They might be dead in 7 days ya know and you should check up on them.
