Crimestoppers

My city has adapted the "Crimestoppers program" where you can get paid some money for helping out the police.

I help out recently by giving information to Vice about some drug dealers in my neighborhood. I took down license plate numbers of the buyers and dealers and descriptions of certain people involved and times that the dealers sell thier stuff. I got some money for helping out the police plus help my city.

1.Do you have this program where you guys/gals live? Did you ever help out?

2.Do the police like this program? Does it help YOU the police?

I didn't know about the program until the lieuntenant of vice told me that they busted the dealers and ask me if I wanted the reward. I started having problems with the drugs in my neighborhood so I had to do something, it was being sold right in broad daylight in front of my and my neighbors houses and cars pulling up all hours of the day. They knew about these guys for awhile now but didn't have anybody to give information on the dealers.

There's alot people that didn't know about the program and it wasn't advertised in the newspaper. It hasn't gotton out yet, butthe words getting spread around.

But your right I wonder if people will try to abuse something like this, only time will tell.

I don't think so, you'll have to ask VTFUZZ whether or not our city has it.

I bet we have a lot of drug dealing too, since a lot of cocaine comes up from Massachusetts.

I don't think I'd want to get involved in that for any amount of money. What if they found out who you were? I know it's probably safe, but I'm such a worrywart!

People are always telling hubby, "I know where you live". We'll really throw them off when we move, won't we? ha ha ha

Crimestoppers is suppose to be tips given by anonymous callers, you don't have to give your name or number if you don't want to. They also don't tape record it either. All information is held confidential, your names not suppose to be passed out, and they don't want to know where you live, you also don't have to take the money if you don't want to. I'm ok with trusting them because I know a few officer here, they grew up the same place I did.

The Crimestoppers program has been going here in the U.K. for a several - i.e. I don't know exactly - years.You can give your info anonymously (as most people do) but if you feel that your info is worth money or a follow up by police is required you can leave your details.There is a method then whereby you can collect any reward money due in anonymity.

I have personally been tasked on two occasions to make enquiries based on information that has come in anonymously via Crimestoppers. I carried out my enquiries but was unable to further them due to verification and identification problems re the named people.

I know of an anti-burglary operation in West Midlands that was advertised on the side of buses offering

We've had Crime Stoppers (it's actually two words) for 20 years now. It's a big help & does work. Course, I'm a little partial since I'm the coordinator & a member of their sponsored CrimeStoppers (both words together) Band.

Somebody has gone around to every police station in London (Metropolitan Police) and gone into every cell with a ladder and very neatly in large letters painted 'CRIMESTOPPERS' in clear printing with '0800 555111' (freephone number) on the ceiling!!

so what's the idea? the person arrested lieing on their cell mattrass looking up at the ceiling get to memorise CRIMESTOPPERS number?
