Ok, I was pleasantly surprised to find out my mom left my kids a substantial bit of money. (Life Insurance and retirement benefits too) But anyways if you had a choice of what to do with it what would you do. Around $25,000.

My idea was since the kids are 15,14,11. I wanted to take them on that Disney cruise. And tell them that thier grandmother paid for them to go. And put the rest into a trust for them for when they turn 18. The reason behind the cruise was i think if they have a really great memory of what my mom did for them its better than down the road when the moneys gone, and they look back and say my grandma left me some money but i spent it all. I just didn't think it would be as memorable without doing something that will make pictures and memories. Any suggestions?

I think the Disneyland Cruise is a great idea.

I'd put the rest back for college and rainy days. I've got three kids too, I know that rainy days occur. Braces, car insurance, unexpected medical problems, etc.

Sorry to hear about your mother passing away.

        Ftr,
What a wonderful idea!! I think that is great. Are you going to go before you start the academy?

I would go with the cruise or go somewhere else that they would like to go as a present from thier grandmother. I know i would have loved to do something like that when my grandmother passed away but alas things happen LOL The idea of putting the extra aside in a plan to save for thier 18th birthday or college is a good idea too. I think you have a very good head on your shoulders and you are doing the right thing.

If the children will be attending college you might want to look into a 529 plan. (or something similar)

I really think the cruise would be a very nice memory to remember their grandmother's love for them. Then bank the rest for their school. Hope they have a great time.

LOL well sometimes you can find a lot of sage advise mixed in with other stuffs. Besides you can not always be in agreement sometimes the ones who disagree with the common way can shed a bit of light to a clouded way of thinking.

Darn, I could swear there was a lot of parsley, rosemary and thyme in there too.

As for Frank, he may be a wise ***, but he's an intelligent one. The man does give some sound advice.
