    talked to Police Chief today

The Police Chief talked to me today and said it is very possible they will get to my name on the new hiring list! He recommended I start an exercise program to be ready for the agility test and basic training. So it's time to get serious! My plan is to really work on my upper body strength and running

You begin your exercise program slowly and take time to gradually build endurance and strength. That includes running.

    Take your time.

Do not isolate any part of your body work on the complete package. Like Jim said start slow and build up from there. You should make sure your in total fitness and not just have the upperbody strength. I would do a lot of lap swimming as a way to help build a lot of endurance in short order.
