  • New motor law

The state of Wyoming has passed a new law that requires motorists to avoid emergency vehicles parked along-side the road way while lights are flashing.
Motorists on interstates must move to the farthest lane away from the emerg. vehicle.
Two lane highways, the motorists must slow down to 20mhp under the posted speed before passing. Failure to comply can result in a fine of $120.00 and 20 days jail time.
In the past year, two Troopers have been injured in roadside accidents while parked along side the road. The past 5 years, 14 WHP vehicles have been hit while stopped along the road.

It's a good idea, but it looks like another law passed to take the place of common sense.

It should go without saying...if you see a car on the side the road...ANY car...slow down just a tad, give them some room and beware of the possibility of someone coming into the traffic lane. If it's a police car, stop looking at the d*** lights and watch the road! There's no need to see what's going on over there, just think about the other drivers!

I hate to say it, but I've watched quite a few WHP guys on traffic and I'm not surprised. They aren't the most safety conscious guys in the world. You would think that as isolated as they are they would be "Mr Officer Safety", but I've seen them do some stupid stuff.

        True in deed Ken!
I know of a Trooper up around the Sheridan area, where I went to college, that pulled a speeding motorist over, come to find out the guy was a former marine, such as was the Trooper. So a conversation started, along side the road, as to what type of weapon the Highway Patrol carried and what type of caliber. The Trooper, showing his new buddy, broke leather, dropped the magazine, cleared the chambered round and even whent as far as to field strip the weapon and lay the parts on the hood of the patrol car. This was back when the WHP first transitioned to the Beretta 92FS 9mm. Keep in mine this was along side the road on I-90, so that every passing motorist could see what was going on. Talk about being STUPID! Total lack of ones personal safety and unprofessional. This dead head Trooper still is alive, and still on the road.
        AMAZING ISN't IT!!
