Ive got a grip about this system of ours.
Last night I went to the county fair. Traditionally the security has been handled by the Reserves and things have gone very smoothy in the last few years, hardly any fights, drugs, etc.
This time we had several fulltimers as well as several from other cities in the county,it worked out quite well.
I hadnt been there 10 minutes and one of the fulltime seargants (who was there in civilian clothes attending the fair with his daughter who's about 8 or 9 and as cute as can be) approached me and stated that here was this guy with warrants on him that he had been trying to get for 3 months. After many failed attemps at contact and many trips to his home ..here he was.
He wanted me to snag him. And was going to hang in the background to make sure everything was cool. Did I mention that this was a BIG dude and known to fight ?
So I walk up to him and very politely ask him to show me some ID, and he refuses. I tell him that we suspect he has some warrants on him and we'd like to get that cleared up. After informing him that it would be much better for him if he shows me some ID , he does so.... So I run it and sure enough he comes back 10-53.
So I cuff and stuff him and bring him the to detention center thinking hes gonna be there awhile as he has a couple of FTA's, nopayment of childsupport and a couple other things that were fairly minor.
He's telling me he has no money for bond, childsupport, fines and the usuaul sob story about beng arrested and how it aint right.
We do the usual handoff to the jailers and takeoff to go back to the fair after talking to some deputys for about 15 minutes.
15 minutes.
I get back to the fair, get a hamburger and a sweet tea , sit down with a few others to drink it and one of the reserves smackes me on the back and askes me if this same guy has "escaped"
I turn around and low and behold there he is. I was in a state of disbelief. Here's the big guy staring at me. I motion him over to me and he tells me that everything is cool, that his ex-wife posted bond and that they let him go.
In a record time. 30 minutes later the same sargent see the guy walking around asks me why I didnt bring him "in".
I told him that I did and gave him the details. He just shrugged it off and laughed and stated that "at least he didnt beat you back here".
So what about this?
Are you cops here used to seeing the guys get out before the paperwork is even done ? Do you ever get used to it ?
