Apparently, somehow, my ddraw.dll file is missing and my son can't play his Spiderman game. Does anyone who knows about computers know where I can get the file back and how to download it into the proper folder in windows?

    Thanks in advance,

first, i would remove the game from the machine via your control panel "add/remove programs" option. then try reinstalling the game and see if that works.

or try loading your Windows CD into the cd player and search for that particular file and see if it is on there.

if both of those fail, you could try going to a Windows site and searching for that file there.

i know this isn't an "in depth" reply, but it is a quick and easy way to start at these points before trying anything else.

pO1ic3m4n --hey thanks for that link. that looks like a good site for those stupid .dll files that suddenly turn up missing for no reason.

It sounds like you need to install or re-install Direct X. Direct X is a free program created by Microsoft. A TON of games use it, and while it has good points, it has caused me no end of headaches like the one you're having. Go to Microsoft.com, choose downloads, and look for the newest version of Direct X (I think it's version 8.1).

It will install, and the computer will have to reboot and everything, but when it's done you should be up and running for some web-slinging action.

It's funny you mention the directX, because I was loading a computer game for my husband, "The Sum of All Fears" and it automatically loaded the newest version, but perhaps the file might be corrupt. Any animated graphics that I view are also acting wierd. They've turned into flashy animated graphics. I hate computers!!!!!!!!!

            Thanks guys, for the help.

Thanks! It's fixed now. My son will be happy to be able to play Spiderman when he gets home from school. My graphics are back to normal so far.

you need to buy him STARLANCER. my squadron now is doing well; we were recently renamed from the 45th Volunteers to the Flying Tigers. i was promoted yesterday. i've got 83 kills to my credit against the coalition; including several large cruisers.

ok, so maybe i need to take some time away from the computer.

You can just reinstall directx anytime, but you usually have to have the latest version of directx on your computer for new games to run. It's basically just a standard so that any game will work with the myriad of computer hardware out there.
