Do officers nowadays have to notify family of a death or does most every department have chaplains to do that. Thats what our department does. I know it will come up sometime in the career I have chosen and its one of the worst things I can think of. I am not the type to vomit at the mere sight of a body, the smell might make me queasy (sp??). I read the post about dead bodies and that sounded horrible. I didn't know what the job of the chaplains were at first until I asked on and he told me. He said they contact people with an escorting officer or two and console the parents/family.
BTW Are there any chaplains/church personel who work with PD's in this matter?
