Under the headline "Rapper Snoop Dog, Former Top Dog, Reinvents Himself", The Wall Street Journal ran an article on the front page explaining how the man who was instrumental in the popularity of 'gangsta' rap is now broadening his horizons.
According to the article, Calvin Broadus (Mr. Dog) has reached his thirties and feels the need to branch out. Thus we find producing pornos, coming out with a clothing line (with which he had to tone down the "Crippin' and gang-bangin'" influence so stores like Macy's would carry it) and working opposite Kermit in a new muppet movie. To his credit, he has supposedly cut out the marijuana smoking as an example to his three kids. However, writing and singing songs about gang violence and crime is apparently still OK.
I don't know about anyone else, but my kids won't be going to any movie with Snoop Dog in it, even if it is the Muppets.
Am I just being a curmudgeon here?
