  • Democrat, Republican, Republi-crat or Independent?

All my adult life, I've been a staunch Republican. I've also vocally supported the 2nd amendment.

I'm coming out of the closet: I think that the Democrats might be the better ticket and I'm in favor of strict gun control.

    Shields up, Scotty! Quick!

The Democrats seem to be in favor of big government spending, which means spending more on the citizens and social programs (which helps people). It helps the lower to middle classes. I like this concept.

The 2nd amendment was fine in 1776. Firearms were not semi-automatic and were less of a danger to public safety. As our society grows, we are becoming more and more violent. The only way to get rid of guns is to outlaw them. As society becomes more and more urbanized, the banning of guns becomes more important.

It would have to be incremental and would obviously take several decades to fully implement in America:
-- First, ban certain kinds of guns.
-- Then make it harder to legally purchase guns.
-- Eventually, ban the citizens from owning guns.
-- Later on, years down the road, ban law enforcement from possessing guns while off duty. (shields up Scotty!!!) I believe it is already this way for the police in the state of Kansas. It is also this way for the military police and for the police in Great Britain.

Nobody needs guns in a civilized society except the police and the military. We could follow Great Britain's example, which is a very civilized country.

                Arrrrrrggggghhhhhh!!!!!!!!!!!

Democrats also stand for higher taxes and seem to stand for the abolition of ALL personal freedoms including speech. Sorry, I don't see the government as knowing whats best for me and mine. Government is best which governs least.
In God we trust, all others are run MILES and NCIC.

First of all, liberals want government spending so that people become dependent on the federal government. Take social security for instance, a majority of Americans don't prepare to retire because they think that social security will take care of them. Even just a few years from now you will see that social security is completely insufficient. Liberals want people dependent on the government so that they have power of the people. You say that government spending is good for the lower and middle classes, now prove it with solid facts.

Also, only the federal government seems to do socialistic things, even in the more liberal states. If social security (just as an example) is so important, why didn

I was for gun control at one time. But, this is the way I look at it. There are so many millions, maybe, billions, of guns in this world. Banning guns at this point would be a moot point cause they are always going to be here. I now think stricter laws are the answer. A criminal is ALWAYS going to get a gun, or make one, if he wants to.

No, I don't think that is the reason at all. We spend money on social problems to help people. Look at:
                          -- drug programs
                          -- mental health programs
                          -- veterans benefits
                          -- VA hospitals
-- tax refunds (I'm just kidding on this one!!!!)
-- and a myriad of other programs that would not exist if it were not for our government. We spend money on people to help them -- not to make them addicted to Uncle Sam.

Our country is not just heading towards socialism, we are almost there. Between social security and government pensions (city, county, state and Federal) and the myriad of other social programs, we are becoming a socialist country. Do you deny it? Can you stop it? (Nobody can stop it). If you can't beat'em, join'em. Life is short.

Yep, we'll have to socialize the entire country when that happens.

Yeaa, that's true. Large cities might be an exception.

Geez mac, not overreacting here are you? I honestly can't believe you would say something so harsh about someone just expressing their views.

                            Seriously, get a grip.
