I am not trying to be a smart ***, so please dont take it that way, but you need to find another job. If your employer is so cheap that they wont supply you with uniforms or a uniform allowance, then you should take a long hard look at your present employer, and see if maybe you can find something a little bit better.

I have, but almost all of them, at least in this area, are the same. They issue a couple of shirts and a pair of pants max. I am getting into computer repair and maintenance, basic IT support and Website design, and plan to do a little consulting.

You don't have a hundred spare bucks to upgrade your uniform every year or two, but you have the time, gas money, etc... to file a writ? Hey man, to each his own, but it sounds like a load of hassle. Instead of taking 20 hours in research, travel, and filing why don't you get a two day manual labor job (or anything at all) that pays even $5 an hour and buy you some duds. Problem solved, yes?
