  • Semi-literate vandals

Recently, we've had 2 "hate" crimes around here in which messages to the targets were spray painted at the scene. One was a Spanish language radio station that was vandalized. The words "Ilegal radio"(sic) were painted on the wall.

The other was a house that was torched. The message painted on the street called the woman who lived there a "race trader"(sic).

Is there much that looks more stupid than a bigot/vandal that can't even spell his hate messages?

You've seen it before, racial slurs misspelled, sexual references misspelled. Everytime I see it, it makes me think about how pathetic the low-life who put it up there is.

Then trolls come here and guess what? The majority of them have poor spelling and grammar skills.

I wonder if there is a correlation?

I agree. I don't mean to sound stupid, but what is a troll by your definition?

troll is internet slang for someone that comes onto a message board for the sole purpose of causing trouble.

I figured it had to be something like that. Thanks.

I have to admit, one of my biggest pet peeves is the misuse of grammar and punctuation. I'm very rough on myself when it comes to this.

The hockey forum I'm a member at uses a spellchecker. This is one feature I really like. I still proofread everything I write, but the spellchecker comes in handy.

Maybe it's a non-English speaker who doesn't have a good comprehension of the language?

It could be Hispanics staging these 'hate crimes' themselves to gain attention or sympathy...it's happened before.

OTOH, people stupid enough to have such racist views and tendancies can be pretty dense.

                Patrick,

That has been considered. Truthfully, I have no trouble believing it's the dumb, racist, white trash crowd that did it.

                WW:

Nope, didn't check it at all. What you see is what you get with me. No spell-checking, typos when they happen.......I don't screen it at all.

Nightshift, It is hard for someone to make a point if they communicate poorly (speaking, writing, etc...) When I see some of the work of some of these jerks you're describing, it really makes me laugh at how stupid I makes them look.
I have seen higher up (allegedly) Klan members being interviewed on TV. If the Klan was really trying to make an impression, wouldn't they at least hire some educated spokesman? Instead they are represented by Bubba E. Nelson (E stands Elvis), a high school dropout, with no teeth, that tells out about all of our societal woes. Yeah, I'm really swayed by your arguments Bub.

I see the same thing done at pro-gun rallies by the media. They ignore professionals dressed in pleated slacks and Polo shirts and only interview guys wearing a hat that advertises chewing tobacco and a shirt that says "Kill em all and let God sort 'em out".
                        Not biased at all.

I am greatful for the way these people speak, write and look. They make me seem to speak, write and look intelligent.

We have a generation of slang users too that causes those following to believe that's the way things are spelled. We have businesses trying to be cute with their names so that they attract attention or because the correct spelling of the name was already taken. A place here in town is called Kwik Kopy. Music groups have to be cute with their names.

Then there are the kids who just won't pay attention in school. Don't get me started.

I have noticed in my area, the (artists) only like to use initials. I often wonder if they are only spray painting for thier rival gangs. because how could any normal person understand half of whats written and what it could mean after they give the lettering their artistic flair.
