  • Smart gun query

SO, I think New Jersey is about to pass a law requiring all guns made after a certain period to be personalized.

I was thinking about this, and I think this would be very bad. For one, I don't think police will be required to carry them, and secondly, if they can make this type of firearm work, why couldn't they make a device used by police that when turned on would emit a wave or signal of some type that would disable all these weapons within a certain distance? A damping field sort of. I'd bet on it.

Or how about a satelitte activated on or off...

    Kinda like car door locks.

Anything that relys upon electronics can be defeated.

Its just a matter of time.

Everyone knows the politicians in New Jersey wear tin foil hats......

Hey folks, this is really an old concept that's been kicked around for awhile. The anti-gun knuckleheads may try to twist it to their benefit.

I've even seen it as a plot device in a Si-FI novel by (I think) Heinlein, about 1975. The story name is The Gun Shop.

But it would have it's practical side.

            Thanks Mike,

I just looked it up and found I was wrong about the author, The title is The Weapon Shops of Isher (1951) written by Van Vogt. It has a second short story also.

Van Vogt explained how the weapons being carried were 'set' to respond only to the gun owner, in some detail.

There is a link, but most of the article is so childish, I hesitate to post it. Mike would think less of me.

How would they personalise them? The only thing I've seen is the gadget with the ring that marries up to a chip on the trigger guard but this is fairly useless if you can get the owners ring off their finger?

What about Judge Dreads gun? Takes a DNA sample on the hand grip. Any un-autorised user gets a surprise, it explodes. Each round also gets the owners DNA code imprinted on it so you can find out who fired the shot. Cool eh. (BTW, Judge Dread comes from a BRITISH comic called 2000 AD so you yanks can't take the credit for inventing that one as well. You know who you are )

                Soho,

Here's a link to smart gun stuff. But as you will read, it's somewhat negative of the technology at this time.

                Smart gun discussions.

BTW, Judge Dredd is my kind of cop

I'd really hate to have to speak to my gun, in order to get it to function

Smart Gun Technology is only "smart" to an anti-gunner.

I hesitate to use "smart" and "anti-gunner" in the same sentence, becasue anti-gunners are usually not too smart. If they had thought about ALL the ramifications involved, they wouldnt be so anti- gun would they?
