This is stuff that has really happened

The Broken Arrow, Oklahoma School officials remove "God Bless America" signs from schools in fear that someone might be offended.

Channel 12 News in Long Island, New York, orders flags removed from the newsroom
and red, white, and blue ribbons removed from the lapels of reporters. Why? Management did not want to appear biased and felt that our nations flag might give the appearance that "they lean one way or another".

Berkeley, California bans U.S. Flags from being displayed on city fire trucks because they didn't want to offend anyone in the community.

In an "act of tolerance" the head of the public library at Florida Gulf Coast University ordered all "Proud to be an American" signs removed so as to not offend international students.

I, for one, am quite disturbed by these actions of so-called American citizens; and I am tired of this nation worrying about whether or not we are offending some individual or their culture. Since the terrorist attacks on September 11, we have experienced a surge in patriotism by the majority of Americans. However, the dust from the attacks had barely settled in New York and Washington D.C. when the politically correct" crowd began complaining about the possibility that our patriotism was offending others.

I am not against immigration, nor do I hold a grudge against anyone who is seeking a better life by coming to America. In fact, our country's population is almost entirely comprised of descendants of immigrants; however, there are a few things that those who have recently come to our country, and apparently some native Americans, need to understand. First of all, it is not our responsibility to continually try not to offend you in any way.

This idea of America being a multi-cultural community has served only to dilute our sovereignty and our national identity. As Americans, we have our own culture, our own society, our own language, and our own lifestyle. This culture, called "American " has been developed over centuries of struggles, trials, and victories by millions of men and women who have sought freedom.

Our forefathers fought, bled, and died at places such as Bunker Hill, Antietam, San Juan, Iwo Jima, Normandy, Korea, Vietnam. We speak English, not Spanish, Arabic, Chinese, Japanese, Russian, or any other language. Therefore, if you wish to become part of our society - learn our language!

"In God We Trust" is our national motto. This is not some off-the-wall, Christian, Right Wing, political slogan - it is our national motto. It is engraved in stone in the House of Representatives in our Capitol and it is printed on our currency. We adopted this motto because Christian men and women, on Christian principles, founded this nation; and this is clearly documented throughout our history. If it is appropriate for our motto to be
inscribed in the halls of our highest level of Government, then it is certainly appropriate to display it on the walls of our schools.

God is in our pledge, our National Anthem, nearly every patriotic song, and in our founding documents. We honor His Son's birth, death, and resurrection as holidays. We turn to Him in prayer in times of crisis. If God offends you, then I suggest you consider another part of the world as your new home, because God is part of our culture and we are proud to have Him.

We are proud of our heritage and those who have so honorably defended our freedoms. We celebrate Independence Day, Memorial Day, Veterans Day, and Flag Day. We have parades, picnics, and barbecues where we proudly wave our flag. As an American, I have the right to wave my flag, sing my national anthem, quote my national motto, and cite my pledge whenever and wherever I choose.

If the Stars and Stripes offend you, or you don't like Uncle Sam, then you should seriously consider a move to another part of this planet. The American culture is our way of life, our heritage, and we are proud of it. We are happy with our culture and have no desire to change, and we really don't care how you did things where you came from. We are Americans, like it or not. This is our country, our land, and our lifestyle. Our First Amendment gives every citizen the right to express his opinion about our government, culture, or society, and we will allow you every opportunity to do so. But once you are done complaining, whining, and griping about our flag, our pledge, our national motto, or our way of life, I highly encourage you take advantage of one other great American freedom, the right to leave.

If our flags and signs offend someone that is their problem. If they are that easily offended and do not understand our sentiments, perhaps they should leave.

It will be a cold day in hell before I remove the American Flag my patrol car or remove my American Flag lapel pin from my uniform. Damn those that are offended!

Perhaps it is time to stand up to these mealy mouthed, afraid of offending someone idiots and telling them to take their PC and shove it. I just can't find it in my heart to have any use for folks who don't love our country enough to show it a little bit.

Ladies and gentlemen, any level of government or other organization that has become so confused by the events of 2001-09-11 that they can not see the difference between being fair and tolerant, and political correctness that has been turned inside-out, needs to be told loudly and clearly that they are wrong.

These are dark days, and you need powerful symbols to help you recover your spirits and reassure everyone that there are better days to come.

          Good luck and be strong!

            Barf.........
This reminds me of when a former Provincial Premier decided to bann Christmas Trees and decorations from government offices because it might offend somebody. When he realized nobody intended to follow the instructions and a loud outpour of complaints came, he reversed his decision.

I heard this on John Boy and Billy a couple weeks ago and found it on their site. I think it speaks volumes on the current state of affairs of our school system and our priorities. It was written by a student, but his/her name wasn't mentioned.

              The New School Prayer

Now I sit me down in school
Where praying is against the rule
For this great nation under God
Finds mention of Him very odd.

If Scripture now the class recites,
It violates the Bill of Rights.
And anytime my head I bow
              Becomes a Federal matter now.

Our hair can be purple, orange or green,
              That's no offense; it's a freedom scene.
The law is specific, the law is precise.
Prayers spoken aloud are a serious vice.

For praying in a public hall
Might offend someone with no faith at all.
In silence alone we must meditate,
God's name is prohibited by the state.

We're allowed to cuss and dress like freaks,
And pierce our noses, tongues and cheeks.
They've outlawed guns, but FIRST the Bible.
To quote the Good Book makes me liable.

We can elect a pregnant Senior Queen,
And the 'unwed daddy,' our Senior King.
It's "inappropriate" to teach right from wrong,
We're taught that such "judgments" do not belong.

We can get our condoms and birth controls,
Study witchcraft, vampires and totem poles.
But the Ten Commandments are not allowed,
No word of God must reach this crowd.

It's scary here I must confess,
When chaos reigns the school's a mess.
So, Lord, this silent plea I make:
Should I be shot; My soul please take!

                If I was living in the States now, I would fly the biggest flag I could find with the following explanation below it;

This flag symbolizes freedom of religion, whether it be christian, jewish, islam, hindu, or any other. It also symbolizes the freedom of anyone to pursue life, liberty and happiness. But perhaps most importantly this flag flies to remember those who died fighting to protect those freedoms.

If this Flag offends you, F**K YOU!

I truly despise the PC, fence sitting, let's all bend over backwards crowd. The above posts pretty much sum up my feelings too. I would add....If you do not stand for something, you will fall for anything! All our patrol cars are sporting flags and 90% of us are wearing flag pins on our shirts. No complaints here, of course this is TEXAS

God wasn't in our pledge of alliegence until 1954.

I have no problem with students praying at/in school on their own time. But state sponsored religion is not a good thing by any means.

Shools are there to show how we do things, and teach us the facts, they're not there to tell us which story book is the right one.

A 'state sponsored religion' would be like 'The Church of England'. The US government never has 'sponsored' religion....and being able to say a prayer in school, at a ballgame does NOT qualify as 'state sponsored religion'.

                      I agree 110% with Guard Dog's post.

Then why are schools consistantly turning out dumasses in every respect?

How is that considered "State sponsored religion"? No one is telling anybody to worship a certain deity, but what's happened is that a bunch of self righteous do-gooders have taken it upon themselves to step on everyone else's Rights to free expression. So what if that expression is on a school billboard or on a City's garbage trucks. The message is "God bless America", not "Bless God, America, because it's the National Religion".

What some folks forget is that the Constitution guarantees freedom OF religion, not freedom FROM religion. No one's forcing you to be a Christian, or a Muslim, or a Sikh.. but if your neighbor is, well.. deal with it.

As far as removing the flags and lapel pins.. isn't this protected by the First Amendment? I find it hard to believe that in these times, if you refused to remove it, you wouldn't have a rippin good harassment/wrongful termination suit on your hands.

Found this forum today and this is only my second post, so I was hesitant to weigh in on so serious a topic. But, what the heck, in a for a penny, in for a pound, my grandmother used to say.

I agree with a lot of what Guard Dog says -- I had my flag out on 9/11 and it only came down once -- so I could teach my son's Cub Scout troop how to display, raise, lower and fold it. I don't take any issue with someone wanting to show national pride or patriotism with red, white and blue, proud to be American signs, flag pins, etc.

I can, however, comment on the situation in Madison. I live and work here and can tell you exactly what that situation was about. It wasn't because someone thought there wasn't liberty and justice for all. It was because it mentions God, and the school board, concurring with past decisions, felt that having a school-sponsored pledge with those words in it crossed the "separation of church and state" line.

TI was right -- the words "under God" were added in the middle of 50's-era McCarthyism. If the school recited the original Pledge of Allegance, I'd be the first in line to support them.

I actually thought less of the Madison school board after they reversed their decision. Make an informed decision and stick by it, I say. Then let the chips fall as they may. If a majority of people strongly disagree with your decision, they'll replace you in the next election with someone more to their liking.
Caution and worry never accomplished anything.
