The city shuts down a (roughly) 82 square block area along the beach to allow for street parties. This year they projected 150,000 people to be present. They have to contract with the Highway Patrol, Sheriff's Department and adjoining cities in order to have enough personnel to deal with it. Amusingly, my house is in the middle of of it all. Am still trying to find a way to post a picture of a couple of my guys working the event. Have patience.
