Need new radios

Basically, after an Explorer advisor screw up, we have been banned from operating on our last working frequency of our radios, which we have used for 15 years. To make a long story short, WE NEED RADIOS. We're looking into the Motorola TalkAbout, Cobra, Kenwood, Midland etc., any of those type that operate on the same frequency. Would anyone happen to know of a company willing to donate even 1 radio?

You might check the websites for Kenwood, ICOM, Yeasu, etc., they all manufacture commercial as well as Ham radios, and most of them also have the FRS radios you mentioned.

Sometimes, if you get a friendly sales rep, they may come through with some reconditioned units.

Or check with a local Ham Radio dealer. THey may be able to point you in the right direction.

why were you banned...was this an fcc thing or an internal admin thing.... because either way...radios can be reprogrammed and frequencies can be had...it just takes a couple of forms to the fcc... i just got three more freqs hehehehe

Consider jitting up the local stores like Wal-Mart, Circuit City, Best Buy....... if you can get a pair from each store.........

Well I'll paste what I sent to slolightbar (he was curious too )

"Basically it was a dispatcher. We've never had a problem in the past, and she was the one that went wild. Our advisor decided to take a drink order for everyone out in the field as it's a constantly running event with no breaks. Now it might not have been the smartest thing to do, but the frequency is one that's only used twice a day at most for it's true purpose, and the only other person listening to it was this dispatcher. We were ordered to stay off it for the day, so we agreed and didn't use it. This is a 2 day event, so we were back at 5 A.M. the next morning, with a more senior advisor, he called in to confirm that we were ok to use it (the previous day we couldn't get a transmission through to the dispatcher, so we figured they couldn't hear us due to interference) and the dispatcher on duty cleared it immediately, just like they had for years. The second that one woman came to work though and heard us, she called the Chief of police and demanded action, and he effectively banned us from using that frequency. That was the only working frequency left on the radios due to everyone going digital."

We would reprogram them, but they have about no power when using themselves as repeaters, we tried that and it was pretty much a joke without a repeater close. The administration wants the radios back now too (suprise suprise, they want to sell them) We've tried contacting the local stores, and none seem too willing, never call us back and that type of thing, that's why I'm taking the compaign to the net.

To bring this back up to the top, we've now contacted about 200 companies, we really haven't had much success, so if anyone knows one willing to donate, please tell.

Depends on what you want it to do. It can run from $100 each up to $1500 each or higher.

It all depends on the mission. A general purpose radio can be had for around $200-$300 each.

Not that much JKT, we're looking for FRS or GMRS radios. They range anywhere from 20-200 for the about near gold plated ones. The quality ones are usually in about the 60-100 dollar range, but even the 20 dollar ones would be greatly appreciated.
